Okay so I am tired of games not working on my computer because of this cursed abomination called gameguard and gamemon.des. It's not letting me play any of my favorite games like Gunz: the duel, Maplestory, and Mu online. I am trying to reformat my harddrive (I have Windows XP SP2) but I cannot find the CD for it anyywhere...
Is there ANY way possible that I can reformat it without the CD??? Or do I have to go buy another one for a hundred or so dollars from the store?

Re: Grr...computer question...
Friends, that's all I'll say. Also you should find your Windows Key if you're going to reformat and want it to be legit when you do.
You could also try googling those specific programs and look for ways to remove them, should be possible without reformatting, just might require some specific editing.
Sure you're not a cheater, sure that's not the problem? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameGuard.Last edited by thetruecoolness; 03-30-2008, 09:22 PM.

Re: Grr...computer question...
All I see about disabling gameguard is a bunch of hacking and whatnot, its not a simple process, and I wont go into specifics on here.
[EDIT]
GameGuard Error 114
Question
I am receiving GameGuard Error 114.
Answer
Most of the issues that we have seen attributed to this error message have been due to a firewall. If you are receiving this error message, we suggest trying the following steps.
First, try disabling any and all firewalls that you have running on your machine to see if this alleviates the issue.
If it does not, you'll need to adjust your firewall exceptions to allow exceptions for these files: LineageII.exe, L2.exe, GameGuard.Des and GameMon. Des. Specific instructions for this can typically be found on the respective manufacturers' websites. The process will vary by manufacturer. The default locations for each file are as follows:
"C: \Program Files\Lineage II\LineageII.exe"
"C: \Program Files\Lineage II\system\l2.exe"
"C: \Program Files\Lineage II\system\GameGuard.des"
"C: \Program Files\Lineage II\system\GameGuard\GameMon.des"
If you are still receiving this error message after trying these steps, you should make sure that you have no third party applications attached to the Lineage II program.

Re: Grr...computer question...
No I've never cheated in any game. I have had this problem for about 2 years now. Specifically error 114. It shows up everytime a game is about to start...I have tried every single thing under the sun that forums and articles suggest. And, besides, my computer is getting really laggy nowadays and I just want a fresh start. Would it be possible to somehow burn a Win XP ISO onto a CD and use that?Without darkness, how would you know there is light?

Re: Grr...computer question...
If you have an MSDN subscription or an MSDNAA subscription yes, but you would have to have a job, or goto a college that gets these. But as long as you have a legit CD key it's perfectly legal to borrow a full install disc from someone else and use your key during the install. When you buy Windows you're just paying for the License anyway, and a small amount for the packaging.

Re: Grr...computer question...
Hey I never thought of that! Good thinking! I would have another problem of not knowing my registry key, but I found a sparkly little freeware program called Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder 1.51 that instantly finds your comp's OS and key and prints it out for you for safekeeping.Without darkness, how would you know there is light?

Re: Grr...computer question...
Any program can figure out your key if they know where to look, all the program does is retrieve it from your registry.Originally posted by Stoopiddood9 View PostIs it really wise to let a program figure out your serial?
If you wanna find your key simply open Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion.
Find ProductId : The CD Key is digits 6 thought 15.
This should work on XP alsoLast edited by JPS; 03-30-2008, 11:34 PM.

Waow my computer rox! I am now posting on a new factory grade Windows XP Home edition! I didn't need the Windows CD, I didn't even need any keys or numbers! I just hit F10 when I was restarting, and I followed the instructions from there! Easy as digital pie!Without darkness, how would you know there is light?

Re: Grr...computer question...
Yep, the manufacturers were so gracious enough to put the whole Win XP into a folder^^ I accidently wandered onto some hacking site or something WITHOUT my virus blocker turned on...Oopsie dasie ^^; I had pron popups in groups of THIRTY on my bar at the bottom of the screen! THey wouldnt go away! IT was puttin links on my desktop too! I just had to unplug and reformat my entire harddrive AGAIN! Gosh, this is getting tedious...I am being more careful now, though...Without darkness, how would you know there is light?

Re: Grr...computer question...
I always recommend to download "NO-CD" executables for games that give you problems like that, except I do it for all of my games though. I bought all my PC games legally, but I don't want to dig through my cd wallet for the cd when I play a game so I download NO-CD executables for every game. It makes things easier and you don't have to deal with stupid crap like the game not letting you play due to copy protection. I can't tell you where to get them on here though.Last edited by JLaCroix; 04-01-2008, 01:01 AM.AIM: JeremyLaCroix
