    I'm running out of LITERATURE.

    Guffaw.

Really, I've begun to exhaust my fantasy- and sci-fi- novel avenues of entertainment, and I have no idea where to begin now that I've run the gamut of Heinlein, Dune, Tolkien, Harry Potter, Elizabeth Haydon, Asimov, His Dark Materials, and a few random ones I can't think of right now.

So... in the realms of science fiction and fantasy novels, what do you guys like? I've been interested in Riverworld and Earthsea, but I don't know anything about them outside of the TV minis, both of which I liked, even though they're atrociously acted.

I don't do comics/manga all that much. I get distracted and it takes forever to read any one page. I'm just exceptionally ADD about the whole thing. The only comics I read are Dark Tower comics, and that's because I'm a Dark Tower nut.

Oh, and I read the Serenity comic. =3

And I'll read the Odd Thomas american manga when it comes out.

      BOOKS, people. Preeze?

I've been having the same problem.

Have you tried The Space Oddysse books. I like all of them except 2061. There are some good Bradbury and Dicke sci-fi. If you haven't already, I'd read Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep (AKA Blade Runner) or Martian Chronicles.

Of course, there are some good Star Wars books, but I'd ask someone else about that.

The last great fantasy book series I read was Pendragon. It has about 6 or 7 books in the series, and they are each very hooking!

Hard-boiled Wonderland and The End of the World is magical realism, noir and Ico-esque fantasy. Haruki Murakami. I love it.

I wanna get into cyberpunk lit and I hear Neal Stephenson's stuff is nifty, specifically Snow Crash and The Diamond Age.

If you're really are open to a variety of fantasy novels, you could always give the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance series a go (The earlier novels). Unless they're too low brow for your tastes.

I had a chance to read both Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance from the trailer I helped loot, but there were so many and they all looked so dumb that I passed them up.

I can't in good conscience say I have a high-brow taste in... anything, really. I'll watch/read/play just about anything, or at least try. Just ask Mora, he yells mercilessly at me over AIM when I start talking about all the crap I've recently watched/read/played.

A Wizard of Earthsea is really good. It's a lot more laid back than what you expect from Fantasy. It’s slow, deliberate, introspective, and magical.

Snow Crash is dated and wacky in a bad way, while Diamond Age is relevant and wacky in a good way. Cryptonomicron and the Baroque Cycle are both better though.

Right now I'm really into the New Weird. Check out City of Saints and Madmen and Shriek: An After word by Jeff VanderMeer.

And for really neat/gross stuff read Perdido Street Station and The Scar by China Melvile.

And of course I can't recommend Gene Wolfe enough. His books are very very tough but incredibly rewarding. Dare I say… life changing? If you’re interested look for Shadow and Claw. It’s the first half of The Book of the New Sun which is considered his best work.

Both series grew quite stale, But the earlier novels (from the 80's) are pretty good IMO. I'd read them again if I still had them. They're your typical oldschool D&D fantasy setting.

I thought they were really good when I read them in Middleschool. If I saw one on the street these days I wouldn't stop to give it the time of day.

When there's so much great stuff out there you shouldn't be wasting your time with Dragonlance.
