Avatar problems

Hi. I'd like to load up a picture of Malcolm from my game in making "Monkey Brothers". You see, when I try to upload the image from my computer, the graphic doesn't show up since it's a BMP file. So, is there any way to solve this problem that I have?

jpgs or gifs only. bmps are too big in terms of file size.
