    DLC (Would It Work?)

    DLC = Downloadable content

If I were to make a game that (for example) takes only 60% of the memory, could I release "expansions" to it? If I kept everything the same, but added new areas and stuff could you still load your game save data from a place common to both of them and then use all that you had in the original in the new places?

    EXAMPLE:

You play through Game 1 (No expansion) until you get to save point A

You download the new game (from the internet, w/ expansion) and start at save point A (Since everything from Game 1 is in the new expanded version) and continue on your merry way in the new zones/areas.

Would this work like the multiple memory card trick?

The question is whether or not the game would crash or if you could load your data at all if nothing was removed, just added.

It should work the exact same as the memory card trick. With my game you have to do the trick. Both slots are the same for the most part, but the second one has more maps and stuff. I have done the trick multipal times and it hasn't crashed yet. In short, I believe it will work just fine. I don't think removing stuff makes a difference. I have removed a lot of things. The key is making sure the switch spot is identical on the expansion.

I think once you start a new game altogether you wont be able to load the previous save, if youre wondering if you can carry items/exp/etc... from one game 1 to game 2, I dont think thats possible, I think youll have to start out fresh.

If you havent noticed the saves are on the actual .max file, and you cannot access one files saves from another file, so, no, this would not work if you want to retain items/exp./etc...

With the memory card trick all of your items, experiance, variable numbers, and everything else will stay the same. You just need to have that item in both games. At least it worked for me.

If what you mean is start the game completly over once you load up the "Expansion", but start from the begining with the weapons and stuff. I'm pretty sure you could place an auto event there that will bring all the variables and modes to 0, and warp you to the start point. It could be a pian, but I still think it's possible. I could be mistaken on what you're asking though. You find out and then tell us.

Check gamefaqs.com, there's a guide that details the trick.

I noticed, I just refrained from making a comment.

                    Surprised? I am too.

                      Re: DLC (Would It Work?)

For mdawg-whatever's edification, the reason I :facepalmed is because the Pavilion is one of two sites (the other being the Mag) officially endorsed by Agetec, the company that released the RPGM series in North America. Gamefaqs most likely got that guide from this site (correct me if I'm wrong, though). In any case, that guide is available here at the Pav. Why would you even have a need to go to Gamefaqs, when any RPGM info can be found here?

On subject, though, I was brainstorming for ideas tonight, and realized that I will probably need to incorporate DLC in my current idea for RPGM3 as well. It's kinda funny, because I just made a DLC thread in the RPGM2 workshop a little while back as well. DLC seems to be a new buzzword or something.

In any case, the way I'll need to do it is different than the ways discussed here, but I'll need to test it in the next few days to see if it works. If it does, I've even got an idea in mind on how to make it so the original game would need to have a save file before the DLC would work, and possibly even a way to deter cheaters from going into the edit screen and mucking around in order to avoid downloading the original game file. As I said, I'll need to see if it works, but the way I have in mind would not need the multiple file trick.

                      We'll see what happens.

I looked and I didn't see the guide on here, but maybe I missed it.
