Valkyrie Profile: DS

A new Valkyrie Profile game was just annouced not to long ago for the DS! Little is known about it yet but I've been able to find a few scans and screenshots of the game on japanese websites.

Who else is pumped for this? I'm a huge fan of Valkyrie Profile, and so far this looks pretty good. I wonder if it'll be centered around Hrist like the last two titles were centered around Lenneth and Silmeria, I've heard it isn't though, guess only time will tell.

Also, around the logo are the words: "Destiny by sinner sought, Tragedy by power wrought". Hmmm.

The FMVs are surprisingly well-detalied for a DS game, even though I was blown away by FF XII: RW and FF III, this is pretty mindblowing.



Talking with a feather? Looks like feathers will have some significance in the story, kind of like weeping lilies in VP: 1?



Looks like a maid to me.





More feathers, and no sign of Hrist/Silmeria, looks like it'll star Lenneth again, maybe VP: 1 sequel?

All the characters from top to bottom are Lenneth, Wilfred, Ansel and... Aeris? Ellis? I dunno. Those are all the characters in the battle screens, too. I hope they're not the only playable characters.

I'm a little ****** that it's not a sidescroller. The sprites don't look that great, either. I'm betting all their efforts went into the damn FMVs.

I wish there was a TRAILER I could look at.

I, too, will miss the sidescrolling It was kind of a staple of the series, so it's sad to see it shift to a isometric perspective.

The game is about a guy named Wylfred who hates Lenneth due to a past experience (out of pure speculation, she probably took someone he loved). Queen Hel gives him a magic feather which grants him power to fight the valkyries and he joins with ansel and some girl from the underworld to kill all the valkyries and dethrone Odin.

I can pretty much predict the ending now. Wylfred will realize his hubris and learn to love or something stupid like that and will end up dying and becoming an einherjar or something stupid like that followed by several long paragraphs on the follies of mankind and the arrogance of the gods blah blah blah the end.

See, the cool part about the original Valkyrie Profile was playing as a god. If you're just gonna be a dude with a sword, they're gonna have to work damn hard to get it out of the trench of basic JRPGness.

Why's it so far away???

As far as VP games go, I can't bring myself to play Silmeria for more than 10 minutes lately. I was really addicted to it at first, but now--it's just a CHORE.

If you ever decide to get back into it, don't let the game fool you into thinking the einherjar are any good, because they're not.

Hold on to them, save 'em for later, bring 'em into a fight with high-level monsters, then release them for the bonus items.

I really hope they bring back the einherjar stories. They were the best part of the first game, and they ****ing dropped them from the second one.

That's the thing that ****** me off the most.

You pick up einherjer in dungeons like treasure chests. There's no back-story aside from what you can read about them in the menu (*yawn*) and they are very much useless. The items you recieve when you release them depends on what kind of equipment you have on them. Honestly, I never used a single einherjer in a battle. They are so useless--added with the fact that learning skills requires actual battle experience makes matters much worse. Taking out Party EXP was also a bad idea.

What got me stuck was The Palace of The Venerate Dragon. I hadn't released any einherjer yet thinking I could hold out until the end to maxamize my bonuses but I'm getting murdered and the battles are taking way way too long. Then it's the last chapter to make the dog/chicken/cat rings--and I'm the type of person who can't stand missing useless crap that I never use anyways.

And did I mention that if you level up Arngrim & Leone to 41 before the end of that chapter you get a bunch of cool weapons? But I've been doing a ton of fighting and my main crew is around the mid 20's. WTF is wrong with the people who made this game?

It's nothing that I really should be getting bend out of shape over. But it just made me stop playing. I'll probably pick it up and try to plow through it again sometime later. Right now I got better things to be doing though.
