I've already posted previously about my desire to actually DO something with RPGM3 in 2008, after pretty much having taken the entire year of 2007 off. However, due to the two ideas I've formulated (the quagmire known as Series 4 and an unpublicized project) and having begun work on those massive undertakings, I feel right now it is to my benefit NOT to jump right into either of those two for the time being.

To re-acclimate myself to the software, and to allow me to try to regain the patience and focus needed to make an RPGM game, especially ones of this magnitude, I've decided to make a "small" game. I've already had a discussion about "small" games with Anonymous Bo in my development studio at the Mag, and will reiterate here...I have no interest in making a "small" game if the word small is being equated with "simple." What drives me to create with RPGM3 is to look at the so-called limitations, see how they might hinder or prevent me from implementing an idea I have, and then find ways to work around it. In short, if I'm working on a game that is not challenging me in some way, I tend to lose interest fairly quickly. This is the main reason all of my released games thus far have concentrated more on the "tech" or programming or gameplay than the story. I tend to find much greater satisfaction from the software by problem-solving than by telling a story. This is both a detriment and a benefit, and is the reason I envisioned Series 4 in the manner in which I did...I wanted to make a game based on story first and foremost (but because it's me making it, of course there is going to be some pretty heavy coding involved).

That being said, my "small" game will be small in length only. I'm shooting for 2-4 hours tops...maybe even less. However, it WILL involve some pretty intense coding. Basically, the way I have it envisioned, it will be a puzzle game, but will be unlike any other puzzle game that's been released thus far for RPGM3 (meaning, basically, Whispers in the Woods and A Series Aside). It's going to be more in line with my " dialogue puzzles" in the teaser for Series 4, Episode 1, in theory, but pretty much not even close to the same thing. The puzzles are going to revolve more around the characters and their abilities, and at this point, there's probably even going to be a semi-homage to Portal. I really do not want to say too much more, because I want to finish this game in a fairly rapid fashion, and release it without a lot of expectation or prior knowledge of what you will be experiencing. I want the player to go into the experience "fresh."

So for the time being, that's the update. The saddle's already on the horse; it's just waiting for me to mount it.
