    Best performance

I just got a new "37 lcd tv the other day and I want to get the best quality performance possible out of it. Now, I bought it from walmart, and the people there have no effing clue about anything, and I can't seem to get much info out of the owner manual either. We are upgrading to digital cable, I declined HDTV since there are only 11 channels available in that format (a waste as far as I'm concerned).

What I want is to get better picture quality out of my dvd player and ps2. And to a lesser extent, maybe hook up my computer to it as well. I just don't know which cables to get for optimum performance. Right now I'm using the standard Y/R/W cables.

My tv has HDMI, S-Video and Component Cable hookups. My dvd player also offers S_Video and Component Cables I think. They are labeled different. (Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr). I have no clue how to hook up my computer to it. Now, I looked it up online, but as usual, I'm getting conflicting info about which cables are better to use.

Please help. I just want my games to look their best.

Which are those? I have an option of three different HDMI settings when I hit "input".

And is the picture noticeably different when I use component cables for a PS2?

HDMI - Its not only for PS3 and Blu-Ray, I used that pic to show you what a HDMI port look like

Something with that many cables has got to be good

            Re: Best performance

If there isn't an input on the back of your TV for HDMI, I would also be surprised. HDMI is far better than component cables. HDMI can send 1080p video and lossless audio all in one cable.

But for your setup, yeah, component, sure.

But if you have a Vizio or some off-brand, it's not going to look as spectacular as the really expensive models.

It's a sanyo. Not the best, but not the worst either.

Are the HDMI cables available for PS2's? I doubt it, but like I said I want the best picture I can get.

Also, is the picture going to be improved while using a PS2? Basically, will I notice an improvement at all?

Question Ser, does your PS2 blur back and forth? Like it'll be sharp one second the blur the next, and flip-flop like that?

Just wondering, I'm using composite and its doing that badly...makes it hard to read any text in RPGM3.

                  Re: Best performance

Well I'm just using standard RCA cables right now. Movies look fine but my games look a little grainy. Thats all. I can read things just fine. Sometimes my ps1 games look a little crappy. Depends on what I play though.

                    Re: Best performance

Same here, it gets annoying after a while, Im sure it isnt helping my eyes either

Though I have an 32" LCD HD, so stretching a composite to 1080 probably strains the images quite a bit, looks a little better on Normal settings, but it still blur

Do they even make high quality cables for ps2?

They make component and S-Video for ps2. Not sure about HDMI.

I use component for PS2 and Wii, HDMI for PS3, component for my DVD player. My images are pretty!

Final Fantasy VI from Playstation's FF Anthology looks wretched from my PS3. =\

If your DVD doesn't upconvert movies (and it probably doesn't if it doesn have an HDMI port), then component's just fine.

Your PS2 will look better on component cables than S-Video.
