    No... NO. NO!!!!!!!

Alright so I'm having a little bit of trouble with my desktop at the moment... I was putting songs on my mom's iPod earlier this evening, and I decided I would finish up about 15 minutes ago. When I went to go disconnect it, it got anal and tried to synchronize. I hit eject again after it syncs, and it freezes. Five seconds later I get the BLUE SCREEN OF ****ING DEATH. I'm rather used to it by now, but this angered me since the iPod was connected at the time. So I go and turn off my computer, give a minute to dump, and then reboot it.

When I finally reboot it, it starts trying to load system files, much to my bewilderment. I look over and remember that I had my external hard drive turned on and plugged in! When it finally hits 100% of reading the files on it, I try and get out of the screen with no success. So I turn off the hard drive. ...That got it. The only problem is that my keyboard would not work. So I unplug it and plug it back in a good 10 times with to results. Then, I unplug once more and get the keyboard attached to my Wii.

I plug it into a different USB port and lo and behold, it works. It was at this time that I started to pray the keyboard was damaged. ...This does not seem to be the case. I plugged the keyboard into a different port and it worked just fine, but when I plugged it into it's original port, it wouldn't register.

...Will someone please tell me I didn't ruin that USB port?

Smash your ipod and get a different MP3 player.

Smacking my iPod and throwing it at the floor or wall fixes it.

Perhaps when it crashed it lost the driver settings for that specific USB port, go into Settings->System->Device Manager->Universal Serial Bus Controllers and make sure theyre all there and dont have any conflicts.

Youre looking at the Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller, and there should be an equal number of those as there are USB ports.

If its missing youll have to manually add new hardware, as I dont think searching for new hardware will find it, if it shows and theres no problems try updating the driver.

Thanks for that JPS. Must not have been very clear, but you understood. My mom's iPod is fine and dandy, it's the onje usb port on my desktop that isn't. ...Which I should try and fix in a little.

A yellow question mark in the place of the USB cable icon would signify a missing driver.

F.Y.I. Unplugging devices in the middle of them being accessed is usually a very bad idea. Scratch that, its always a very bad idea. Just let it finish what its doing, unless its formatting your hard drive without your permission

'Twas finished. It was at 100% and just wouldn't leave the screen. I got tire of waiting after an hour. Anyway, I fixed it. There was a yellow exclamation point near one of usb drivers. I uninstalled and re-installed and... voila!

By the way... I know it's a bad idea to unplug something being accessed. But I wasn't going to wait beyond an hour.
