    How to continue a game

I'm making a game that's a direct sequel to my previous game, Usuru, called Vengen. A problem I have while planning out this title is how to address the audience. The story picks up almost exactly where Usuru left off.

So, what is the opinion of continuing a game? Should I get the player up to speed on previous events, or simply assume everyone's played the original title?

There should be something to get players up to date, possibly optional; a brief synopsis of the first game at least will even give people who've played your first game a bit of a recap.

I would deffinetly add a small recap. It doesn't have to be huge, but something to get every player knowing the basics so they're not lost.

you could try an active narrative flashback briefly covering the highlights, perhaps with stills and rolling text to be quick. perhaps you can even integrate the past plot into the game in the form of small flashbacks periodically or as additional information found throughout the game. the point is to make it a stand alone game, but have it linked to the past game. this way your player base will not necessarily require playing through the first game to understand your second installment.
