    Rincar

First of all, I want to apologize for bringing back a three year old topic. I honestly don't have idea how I came across that topic without going to the very end of the forum

Anyway, this is an RM 1 game based on a RM 3 game I started making, called Unaverage Bill. I decided to go for the RM 1 version first because I have a dexdrive (which I didn't before)
This would actually be the first game I'll complete, since I never took RPG making too seriously, and gave up shortly after a few days of working on one.

Bill is a man who would be an average Joe in a normal world. But in a normal world, an average Joe doesn't have one of many possible abilities, like throwing fireballs, teleporting, super vision/speed/strength, morphing, call down lighting, shoot beams of light, talking to animals, summon goblins, talking telephatically, or.. well, you get the idea. He is the only one who can't do any of that.
Until the day that he finds out he IS indeed special, and he will play an important role in saving the world.

So, you play as Bill, and get to interact with every citizen of Porico Town (the one and only town) which includes, a blind librarian, a telephatic emo baby, a 1337 talking king and a fire throwing wife. All of this while trying to find out more about his powers and lending a helping hand to his neighbors.

I guess this sounds somewhat retarded, but it actually has a plot, and I'm trying to make it so that while you can't obviously use every citizen in your party, they all still play an important role on the story or puzzle solving. (Like throwing your wife's cat to hit a switch from afar, and then find a way to get your cat back, or calling that neighbor that has super strength to push big rocks away)

    Some features: (so far)
Find Books to read about (play as) other citizens as they go on their own adventures.

Passive/Rush mode: It's something I'm trying to put in every dungeon. Passive mode would consist the usual exploring of dungeons and puzzle solving, while Rush mode would consist of a series of consecutive fights, ending with a boss battle

Get rewards for keeping your neighbors happy

Citizens can help you, even if they don't fight, by either clearing obstacles in dungeons or solving puzzles

Anyway, this is what I have planned so far. I've already filled 5 blocks of scenario data and I only have fully covered the prologue and chapter 1 (The game is not actually divided by chapters, tho)
Umm.. and that's all I have for now...

    Re: Rincar

Welcome to the Pav! Hope you're enjoying it here so far, and you get rep for joining on my birthday

I think the ideas here sound absolutely awesome. There's not quite enough detail that I could offer further suggestions or a lot of constructive criticism, but I love the idea of Rush and Passive modes, and I love the idea of having Bill be the only guy who can't do amazing stuff on his own.

I think the kind of puzzles you've described definitely would lend themselves towards really creative dungeon design, especially with outdoor set pieces. If the Data Usage allows for it, integrate "Town" and "Field" maps into your dungeon designs. It could be very cool.

        Re: Rincar

Ok, I'll elaborate more. I'm actually originally from the mag, so most of my game info is there.

I think that what I'm trying to do might be a bit too ambitious for someone who has never finished an RM game before

Inspiration: One of my favorite RPGs is Suikoden, and I definitely like how many characters that series have. And I also liked how in Radiata Stories, there was this big town where you could see that each character had their daily routines. And you could also challenge them to a fight and convince them to join you.
I originally planned to make this game in RM 3, where you would HAVE to fight every citizen to advance the story.
And the whole, people with super powers might remind some of Heroes. And while I like that series, I didn't even know what Heroes was about when I start developing this game idea.

The field map: I originally planned to have "dungeon fields" but quickly scrapped that to use the normal Field map. (I though it would be to much of a hassle, specially for me, since I consider myself a newbie) But after thinking about it, I decided against it, since I'll be able to incorporate the use of the citizens abilities to clear paths in the field to get access to more areas.

The battles: Here is where I'm not too sure what to do. I was thinking that perhaps I could give the classic random battles a chance, but I don't like how... random can they be (In the way that I can't control how many monsters will appear per battle unless I start toying with monster sizes)
All I'm sure of is that Rush mode is staying.

Character development: I want every character to play a good part in the game, either by being an important story character, or as a "tool" to solve puzzles or clear paths. But I also want to try to go into the lives of everyone, even if it's by the means of side quests. The thing is, there are a LOT of characters, and I want to do it right

Side Quest and Mini games: One of the aspects of this game is collecting books, which will allow you to play optional dungeons with other characters. After clearing it, Bill might then gain access to that dungeon, or learn of the location of a special item, or maybe give you the chance of adding that character to your team.
And I also want to have mini games where you put your neighbors abilities to good use.

        Now, about the story itself.
        THE TOWN OF PORICO
Entrance area: A small area preceding the main residence area. Some of the newer citizens have built their home in this place. Zain, the elven lumberjack has taken the charge of building homes for other creatures, like mermaids and fairies. As the game progress (and if system data space allows it ), even more houses might pop out here.

Residence area: The name says it all. This area consist of most of the citizens houses. Bill's house included. I tried giving each house an unique look (at least on the inside) There's a particularly special house that you can only enter after meeting some conditions (which are not too hard to meet or miss)

Farm area: Just a small farm run by 2 cousins, both of them shifters (Can turn into a specific animal) Currently I'm trying to figure out what to do with it (There's already an story event where you have to help one of the cousins to get all the runaway animals, but I want to integrate something else to the farm)

School area: This were Mrs Joanna (Or Jo for short) teaches the kids about all kind of stuff (what else?). You can usually see Ada the fairy trying to get "human knowledge"
Jo will probably be the "How to" lady

Zane's mansion: Residence of one of the most powerful element manipulators Since his disappearance. The mansion is being kept by his maid, which is also now in charge of his granddaughter now that he is missing.

Spade Manor: Residence of Jason Spade and his daughter Kiara. They are in charge of keeping Porico secure. so they receive a lot of requests from most citizens. In this area you will find Zoke's Hut, where you can power up your magic and special attacks; Coop, the Garden Dwarf and Sarah, the blind librarian. Here you'll get to read (and play as) other citizens adventures as you find the appropriate book.

The Plaza: Here you will find Martha's cafe. Her food is so good that it even replenishes HP, mp and cures status. There are a lot of tables outside the cafe, and you'll usually see a family or couple enjoying the fresh air while eating.

The church: Nothing much to see her. The citizens don't seem to be too devout, but in reality, they just can't stand the priest loud voice. But if they are hurt, they will come here to get a quick healing.

The playground: A secret area, where the kids gather to play on their free time. Here you'll be able to play with the kids and get prizes

The castle: Residence of the royal family. There's the interior of the castle and (in the works) courtyard. The royal family might make look Vet (the homeless guy that blows everything out of proportion, context and everything else you can imagine) like a sane person.

        The citizens of Porico Town
Every citizen has something peculiar, and they can be grouped in certain categories, depending on what they can do.

        Elementalists
One of the most common abilities is to control an aspect of nature. Fire elementalists can control fire, tree elementalists can control the growth of trees and so on.

        Shifters
People with the ability to change form. Some can turn into a specific creature, while others can turn into many kind of animals

        Enhancers
People with a developed function. They can have super speed or strength, a special kind of sight of the ability to jump very high.

        Others
There are others with abilities that doesn't seem to fall into any other category, but are usually a mix of abilities. When the 2 abilities can be differentiated, they are called Hybrids.

        -----------------------------------
        Some characters...

        William Bell
        Age: 28
The... "hero" of the story, called Bill by everyone. Despite not having any abilities like the rest, he manage to live a good life, even marrying the girl of his dreams, a Fire Elemetalist called Jessica.
Bill was entrusted with the powers of ancient warrior to do something he's not too sure of yet. But he knows it has to do something with a Dragon

        Jessica Bell
        Age: 26
Jess is the Fire elementalist Bill married. She is usually an overly cheery person and very curious. When something burns down, all fingers point at her, but she claims she is innocent of each incident.

        Mintara Trimber
        Age: 19
A young shifter who hates her name, so everybody calls her Mint. And like most shifters, she tends to act like the animal she can morph to on occasions. She runs the farm in Porico, until all her animals runs away.

            Thanks!
This game is taking more space than I expected. I'm already at 7 blocks of scenario data, and all the events already made only leads to the Pre-3rd dungeon area.
Then again, I had no idea how much space would it take, considering this the farthest I've gone in a RM project.
