Games that make you laugh.

This topic idea came from seeing Mora's "Funny Games" topic, I went in thinking it was something else, so here I am.

I think its no secret that usually humor and games don't mix well, and when games do it, it feels forced. But some games do it well, so what games do you guys think are funny, and have in fact made you laugh pretty hard?

Lost Odyssey: This game for is the most recent with the wise cracking scoundrel Jansen. He avoids being the typical "womanizing character" by saying lines that you will commonly laugh at.

Bully: This games is practically built around comedy, you start the game off as a literal red headed step child.

Metal Gear Solid games: If you **** around in these games, the codec sequences will be that much better. Oh, and Colonel Raikov in MGS3.

Conker's Bad Fur Day: Sure the game was ten times more funny when I was like, eleven, and the jokes weren't funny the second time around in the remake, and Live and Reloaded suffered from the "I guess the game wasn't as great as I thought it was" feeling. But still though, I have a soft spot in my heart for that little red squirrel and his raunchy mishaps. Like the King Bee calling his wife a fat ***** and helping him get with a well endowed sun flower. Great stuff, I am more than hoping for a sequel.

So what games do you guys think are funny, and your favorite parts of them?

The reason humor in most games don't fare well, is because many times it's done during the gameplay, and many gamers just wanna play, not hear their partner's preference for rappers while being shot at and set up for murder. Many times the mood isn't set right for a laugh, which points to the above example. There are too many factors IMO, which affect the player's reaction to humor.

For me, Harvey Birdman was full of laughs, because it wasn't a game that had to be taken very seriously.

And for the record, the examples you listed Bigfoot, are pretty dry to me. But in Lost Odyssey's defense(or expense), I think the game is pretty mediocre.

Paper Mario series is usually succesful at giving me a chuckle at sometime or another. And Phoenix Wright, they seem to have pretty similar humor.
My girlfriend is getting Okage off of Ebay... it's so sad, because the only thing that redeems the terrible gameplay is the laffs.

the monkey island series.

One I remember. You examine a mechanical brass monkey. Guybrush says, "Hmm. Brass monkey."

Then off screen you hear people go, "That funky monkey!"

I'd second Psychonauts.

Uncharted isn't really a comedy game but the characters are charming and have their comedic moments.

Disgaea 2's best gags were in the equipment names/descriptions.

My girlfriend is getting Okage off of Ebay... it's so sad, because the only thing that redeems the terrible gameplay is the laffs.

I was going to say that. But for some reason the story is actually kind of sad. But they fit comedy in it. It's the first RPG I've ever played. It's a pretty crappy game actually. But if it wasn't for it, I wouldn't be here.

I thought Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga was decently humorous. Katamari was not necessarily MEANT to be humorous, but the first time I saw it, and saw the cats get rolled up, and they are still meowing as you are rolling around, struck me as funny.

And it's already been mentioned before in this topic, and I've mentioned it before in many topics myself, but my nod goes to Psychonauts.

For a few more old-school games, I'd have to go with the original Leisure Suit Larry for the computer. Don't remember anything in specific about it, but I know I laughed quite a few times during my playthrough with that. I still remember right at the beginning of the game, with this bum sitting on the sidewalk outside of the bar where you begin, and if you walk right up to him, close enough where your feet are right next to his crotch (his legs are splayed out), he comments, "Geez! Them pointy-toed shoes hurt!" A little thing like that (not necessarily an easter egg, but just something they threw in that didn't really pertain to anything else) is what inspired me to keep playing, and try all different kinds of things, just to see what would happen. I miss those old Sierra games (King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Quest for Glory or whatever it was called, Space Quest, etc).

And probably the first truly humorous game I ever played, Maniac Mansion.

Anachronox: "Wanna see my batteries?" This game probably has the most well executed humor in an rpg ever, as the whole game is pretty much a parody of scifi and rpgs.

Freedom Force 1 and 2: Campy comic books are funny, and these games are just full of dialog parodying them. The best (and most ridiculous) writing is always in the characters backstories where you see how they got their superpowers.

A whole lot of adventure games; the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, and the Ace Attorney series.

I really liked Shadow Madness. Despite the fact that the gameplay was very derivative of Final Fantasy VII and the game was incredibly easy(and more flaws too numerous to mention), it was filled with some really funny dialogue, which made the game enjoyable enough to play. I just wish I could remember some quotes from it.
