Anyone else have problems with PSP v3.90

So after trying to play Patapon and it telling me I need to update I figure I'll run the update I got last night or so to have the latest. So first I can't run it because the battery is too low (40%) even though it's PLUGGED IN like it has to be anyways. So after an hour it's charged, then I start it and it gets to 95%

There has been an error, contact technical support (FFFFFFFE).
I thought it was bricked, so I try to find a way to reset it since I figure I'm screwed either way. Tried to hold the power in, no luck, hit all the buttons, nothing, looked for a hard reset button, no where to be found. So I unplug it and take the battery out.

Turns out it was just kidding I guess as it boots up fine and has V3.9 installed. Man I love this new world of console gaming where you have to update you system to play any new game you buy, no wonder I don't play PC games, then I wouldn't have to upgrade my system all the time. I just wanted to play a game but noooo can't just do that , but now I can talk on skype on my PSP and that's all that matters right.

I'm having problems finding a PSP with a firmware version below 3.50.

        Custom firmware FTW.
