Lugubrious - My band. My studio recordings.

I told you guys my band Lugubrious would be recording demos in a studio and I have two songs to share with you. Both of these songs will be on our upcoming album, Eyes Closed but Looking Far.

Lugubrious consists of two acoustic guitars, two vocalists, an electric bass, a cello, and a drum kit.

Click the song titles to download.

    Nickels and Making Sense

Dogs gather at the scent of your blood
Weeping and bleeding - you look to the sky

Is it so hard to see? The sky holds only empty bliss
Weak and confused - you look to the sea

    Silently, the sea strikes out
Wet and dazed - you fall to the ground

I smell the blood, air, salt and Earth
As I fall below my birth
    Eyes closed but looking far
    You will see only light

Afraid in the dirt - the Earth consumes
    You're drowning in the emptiness
    You're drowning in the emptiness

I smell the stench of burning flesh
As I burn below the truth
    Eyes close but looking far
    As I burn below you

    An Octave Below Reason

    Don't ask me anymore
    I don't care anymore
Biting and gnawing and gnashing and helping
    What for?

    You're all alone
    You're on your own
    You're all alone
    An octave below

    Rolled up, looks confused
    Missing a beat or two
    An octave below reason
    What are you gonna do?

    You're all alone
    You're on your own
    You're all alone
    An octave below

    Even high above this place
I can't see your shining face
All this breathing is such a waste
    Even high above this place

And because I know some of you may remember this song...here is a rough demo of Savior Sleep.

Here is the original solo acoustic demo you may remember.

    Savior Sleep

    You don't have the heart
    I don't have the time
    Let's just all give up
    Sleep will be just fine

    'Cause every single day
    Is based on wasting time
    Born, brought up and bred
    Now it's time to die

    Savior Sleep

Sounds really good. Really, really good.
Ed: Savior Sleep is still my favorite of them, but they are all good.
Side note:Redline is back together,(sans the name) and writing a ton of new demos.

Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

"Nickels and Making Sense" was a nice introduction to your work. Very beautiful. I like "An Octave Below Reason" even more, and the ending to that track is fantastic.

"Savior Sleep" is the only one that didn't click with me... I like the demo more than the regular version.

I'm impressed, man. This is damn good stuff.

Pinky, that's really good to hear.

Nix: Yeah, like I said it's a rough demo of Savior Sleep. Right off the bat I want to fix the electric guitar solo and the vocal harmonies. But I really love the bass and drum parts A LOT on that demo.

I just think the song is really well constructed, regardless of the recording. I have it looping right now.

            Thanks, man.

I plan on adding the cello and some female harmonies onto Savior Sleep to make even THAT much more Lugubrious.

Good. The person singing in the high voice on savior sheep kills it for me.

I really don't mean to be rude, but the vocals are the achilles heel of the band, they just sound bad. Everything else sounds good, sorry man.

Listening to An Octave Below Reason, and I can't help but notice that the vocals are sorta hard to hear over the instruments. If this is on purpose, disregard my comment. But right now, I can't hear enough to tell if the vocals are good or bad. My first impression is that they're okay, but not extraordinary.

This is excellent. I think the vocals are fine.
                    I like the drumming.
                    The songs evolve interestingly.
                    Sounds genuine.

Highwind is singing. Stop making fun of him.

Oh yeah, and I love this new stuff. It's pretty nice. Good evolution from your old solo stuff. Next time you play a gig in Toronto, tell me.

We're not making fun of him, it's contructive.

Well, I see it that you have two options:

1: Hire Jerry Cantrell to sing in your band, I don't know why but his voice would fit your music very nicely. If Lane wasn't dead, he would be nice too.

2: Since that above is impossible, take singing lessons or have someone else in the band sing.

The music is top notch, very well done. Nice construction, nice everything really.

Except the vocals... they're really below sub-par.
