Guide To Get into the Game Industry - Need Focus Testers

Hey guys, how's everything going. Not sure how many new people are at the Pavillion now but the vets here know me as a former game creator and staffer here, as well as a professional game tester with Take Two (2K Sports) for almost 4 years, and someone who's personally met a lot of the Agetec staff and RPG Maker producers. I'm an asst. Sales Director with a different company now.

Anyway, I've decided to use my industry contacts to create a book/guide I plan to sell called 'Hardline Guide to the Game Industry'. I have a an early beta version of it and I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in doing some focus testing on it and telling me what they think it needs.

This is what the book will provide:

    · Access to professional Game Design and Creation Tools and professional teachers who will teach you how to use these Game Tools, with step by step Instructions.

    · The hottest Game Colleges that will equip you for a career in the game industry

    · Thorough Description of game job positions to help you decide the path to take to be a rock star in the game industry

    · How to acquire Game industry contacts to help you network and make valuable connections

    · Overview of game development schedule/process, so you understand what goes into developing a game

    · What the Game job Interview is like and how to prepare for it

    · Where to find New/Upcoming game teams you can join to get invaluable work experience

    · Game Testing Jobs, how to excel in this position and how to use them to move up in the industry

    · How to acquire Financial aid/scholarships

    · Game Industry memberships you need to be a part of how to get into them

Most of these resources are free or very inexpensive.

If you're interested in finding out what this job would entail, post your name and a working email address and expect me to get in contact with you within the next 24 to 48 hours. The goal is to create a book that is extremely helpful to people that people would be willing to buy for an affordable price.

I only need a few people. If you have any html or website development experience, mention that, I might have something additional for you if you do.

    Thanks guys.

Wait so you want people to "test" your book? I'll do it I guess... As long as it doesn't include anything other than reading... PM me and I'll send you my e-mail...

By the way: You shouldn't create multiples of the same topic you know...

LC, this applies to RPGM general but a big subject like this is often reposted in the Free Forum for traffic. It has to be important, but in these cases double topics are perfectly acceptable.

No offence to your idea, but just a warning is that whenever anyone interested in the gaming industry usually asks somone about it, the first but of advice somone else uses is "Don't buy anything" or somthing like that.

I have experience in Website Development (majoring it in college right now) however I think just a PM about what you are thinking about would suffice.

You can send me a PM if you want. I'm in the industry, but it'd be interesting to see what you have there.

Long time lurker here. I remember you from the early RPGM1 days

I'm currently a computer science major, and am giving serious thought towards looking for jobs in the gaming industry when I graduate. So I have a hunch I'm part of your target audience. I also have a pretty strong writing background, so I'd be happy to give you some feedback. My HTML experience is mediocre, which may or may not be of use to you.

My name is Gabriel Deyerle, gdeyerle@gmail.com. Very creative email, I know.

Well being I graduate high school in about three months I've been thinking about what kind of career I want to get into. I have thought about something to do with the gaming industry, but honestly I have no idea where I would start. I always figured it was just a dream job, and never thought of it being a realilistic goal. If you give me a PM I'd be more then willing to give you my email and hear you out. Maybe your book can convince me to take a chance and possible make it to my dream job.

Re: Guide To Get into the Game Industry - Need Focus Testers

Well not sure what you're looking for but I know I bought the book Break into the Game Industry: How to get a job making video games By Ernest Adams, so I could do some comparison to that maybe.

I have quite a bit of website development experience (mainly personal projects i.e. www.thetruecoolness.com and www.nuclearpoweredtoaster.com, both haven't been touch in about a year, and also some work on a chat add on to phpBB). However it's very likely that doing website development would conflict with an agreement I signed when I joined my current employer. Though we focus on the Microsoft platform we do have projects that do web development, so working on it for another person would probably be considered against the non-compete agreement.

But depending what you want for focus testing, I'd be up for depending on what it is and how much of a time commitment you need.
Feel free to PM me, or you can find my email on my website.

Highwind and Moogleman, what's going on fellas, long time no chat. How's it going guys, I've been pretty good, I've done a lot of growing up

Lausen, Moogleman, and truecoolness, you guys definitely sound like my target market.

Hi Red Dragon; hey you're half right about not buying anything....... Really, it's be very careful what you buy, make sure that person can give you something of value for free before you buy, and there should be a guarantee that the product/info will work as stated or a complete refund is in order, all of which I'll be offering.

Hey Postulateman how are you. What function do you perform in the game industry ?

Hi Lord Cohliani. It does include more than reading, it involves writing, and arithmetic.............................not really, it will involve me asking you a lot of questions about what you feel would make the book better.

What's up hitogoroshi, you seem very familiar but I'm not sure if we spoke a lot. But thanks for laying the smack down on Lord Cohliani for me.

Hah, actually, I doubt it. I'm a new-pavilion model. My join date is my REAL join date.
The book sounds vaguely interesting, but focus is a commitment, and I have too many things I need to do (an article for the RPGMM chief among them).
