I just got home from an 18-hour smashfest. (9PM-3PM.. after I had been awake since 6AM :()

We got the interactive unit for work (GameStop) and we're allowed to take those home, even if the interactive unit is the full game and before street date. We completely did all of SSE, and unlocked all the characters and played around 150 VS matches.


Far far better than I had ever hoped it would be. Once I get my copy Sunday, and then go play even more smash, I'll probably be online Monday night.

But for now. Sleep. And lots of it.

Me and my buddy just used the private chat feature over Xbox Live when we played Mario Strikers.

Other than that we are limited to keyboard chat before and after the battles, which you may only use when battling friends, and messages you can add to taunts.

So I guess when me and my friends have brawls with more than just two poeple, we'll use games like Halo 3 or CoD4 for there lobbies.

My plans backfired. I pushed myself to stay up late last night (a total of 37 hours) in hope to sleep through today. But here I am, awake at 7:30, and posting at 7:50.

Oh, and a tip for everyone who wants to unlock characters:

Play the Subspace Emissary. Get a friend, do it Co-Op. If you complete this 6-8 hour event, you will unlock all but 3 characters. And then after you beat it, those 3 characters are hidden in some of the old Subspace levels and would take less than 15 minutes to acquire.

I don't feel that's a spoiler, cause it's not like I said "To unlock Snake, just do this X times". That spoiler is pretty much devoid of detail, but just in case people didn't know that you could get all the characters that way in less than 8 hours.

My laptop is right next to my TV. I could use a Ventrilo or TeamSpeak if I wanted to. I don't know how many people here have that option though.

Communication through this game is just through taunts. It's very child/grandparent friendly, but it's better than nothing... I guess.

Yeah, it's way too simple for a fighting game. But I guess that's why people like it, no complicated training needed since most characters play just about the same. They also don't give you a lot of memory to make custom stages, so cant be too detailed with that.

Definitely a multiplayer game.

It seems that whatever issue they were having with the servers is finally subsiding.

I'm able to fight with random people and when I was fighting with Den lag was pretty much non existent.

My controller was acting up the first few matches I think. I dunno if you noticed but I kinda stood there the first (4 FFA) match. I was disconnecting my nunchuck and reconnecting it. I think it was still registering it had batteries.

I gotta practice. Although Ike was just zany powerful I really want to main Pkmn Trainer.

I finally got to fight some people in my friend roster, but who the heck is Rob, Dean and VK?

And well.... You already know who VK is.

That was a lot of fun last night.

Only problem was that I was getting all confused when we got four fighters, it was tough for me to keep track of my character on screen.

And I've said it once, Kumo is really damn good at this game.

At first, I hated online. It felt laggy, there was button delay, and I felt like a 4 year old trying to play with grown-ups. But after some 1v1s with BZ, I'm loving online.

The matches between me and BZ were pretty much lagless, and when Kumo joined there was only slowdown for maybe the first 30-40 seconds before it felt decent. A tad more button delay than a 1v1, but still very very playable.

It's nice to be able to play a bunch of characters rather than only sticking with my best. I've got a co-worker and if I pick anyone other than, well, a particular hidden character, I get totally destroyed. He had logged over 10,000 hours into melee, and he didn't even start playing til like '03.

Oh, and I hate the fan, ray gun, and Smash Balls. Not a big fan of items in general, but those three are the worst. The fan is pretty much unavoidable if you get caught in it, the ray gun can KO someone who is at 0%, and smash balls are... well, weird.


I think my faves are hands down Luigi and Dedede, even though I suck with them. :( But at least I'm better with them than with people like Zelda, Ganondorf, and Lucario. I think I've played with those three chars maybe a total of 5 matches between all of them. And hated every second of it.



And Mora, I'll play with you. Just let me know a time. I won't be home til late tonight though.

After a while last night I just vegged out and messed around with the stage builder, and went to training mode a messed around with some pinball level I think Red Dragon sent me for like an hour. Its crazy the kinds of levels you can make with this game.

It takes 6-7 hours to unlock all the characters in SSE. Ness, and Marth are in the intro I think Luigi as well, but he was in the previous 2 games anyhow just like CF. The online part is why they made everyone insanely easy to get.

Why is this even an issue? Xbox Live works perfectly no matter what the number of computers are online or anything. It just WORKS.

If you're using the Dongle, I would try getting the LAN Adaptor.

I hear you get a better connection that way (wired connections pwn wireless).

Nintendo's servers are just crappy/overfilled so 3-man friend battle teams don't work, or somone is stealing your bandwidth.

With M$ they're whole network was down. Not just one game.

Maybe it's cause it's 4 players, but these matches suck in lag. Even though one is my roommate. It's unplayable. And from what I can tell, lag favors power characters, cause I won with Ike by a big margin and he's hands down my worst character next to Ganondorf and Zelda/Shiek.

Everyone should optimize their connections by following Red Dragon's link. It didn't help me and Smurvis in our one on one match just now, but it can't hurt, and it might help speed up some larger matches.

Take advantage of how slow he is. Also use the terrain to your advantage. Get underneath him or try to get him to the side as best you can as his recovery sucks and is mostly vertical. If you have that much trouble with him standing there try getting him to smash you, dodge it, get behind him with the dodge and snap his spine with a good thwack. Or just use a shield.

If he uses the Up+B attack is actually I found the perfect time to get under him and interrupt him.

I usually use Pokemon Trainer though, who is very versitile and Ivysaur can shoot his seeds (:3) and devestate that slow monster. It would help to know who you are most likely to use. As this game is very balanced and other characters use different skills that could work.

My biggest problem with Ike is that its so easy for him to get the smash ball, and its an instant killer.

Then get 3-4 brawlers and he is a kill stealer!

I'm thinking of abondoning Toon Link... but I don't want too. ;-;

Use a dodge or air dodge when he gets in close to do his final smash. Oddly enough it actually misses.

So I did the research with training mode, and part of my problem with Ike was that I was using Toon Link every battle.

As much as I hate to say it, Toon Link is significantly underpowered compared to Link. And when compared to other light weighted speed characters, hes a joke when compared to a character like Sonic. Toon Link focuses more on using projectiles, which I think is a lame unfun way to play. So as much as I hate to say it, I'm not using him anymore.

Back to Link and Ness. Thats how I was kicking Red Dragon's ass. :)
