    Shining Force III (scenario 2)

Yes...this game is 10 years old, but I'm just now playing it.

That is...I'm just now trying to BEAT it...AGAIN. I always get stuck in the final battle. You see, because I imported my data from scenario 1, the game is PUNISHING ME FOR IT by placing my reserve team in this battle. I trained them up and gave them great weapons in scenario 1, so now I have to fight them that way.

NOT ONLY THAT, but if I dare to actually STRIKE one of those reserve team members, they say "OMG, you really ARE evil! How dare you defend yourself!" If I KILL one of them, I think they're gone from the game.

    Yeah...****ING MEAN.

This makes it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to finish the battle, and move onto scenario 3 (which I've been wanting to do for about 8 YEARS). Has ANYBODY here actually played the (Japanese) scenarios of SFIII? I'm at my wit's end.

Oh yeah...I just finished one of the HARDEST battles I've ever fought in a tactical RPG, and this battle is PART of that one...meaning, if I cancel this battle and go back to town, I'll have to do that entire, huge (2-part) battle all over again.

And on top of THAT, IT'S IN JAPANESE. I have no idea why my reserves are attacking me. This just adds to the frustration.

I've looked for translations, they aren't ready YET.
I've looked for gameshark codes, but I don't have a Japanese gameshark for Saturn, so they don't work.
I've looked in every faq I could find...after trudging through the very nearly indecipherable Engrish, I find absolutely NO info on this battle, other than one person saying my party should be LEVEL 60????? WHAT?? My party is level 20-25, and there's no place to train up.

    Can anybody help me?

    DEAR SEGA,
    I HATE YOU.

You rock just for having these games. Seriously.

I own the Japanese scenarios. I played and beat the first one, but I got tired of the terrible and often incomplete translation available on the second game, and eventually gave up on it. I didn't even make it halfway through. It saddens me so much that SEGA just. won't. port. it.

      SIGH...yeah.

Meanwhile, SONY released the damn BOX SET for Arc the Lad. It's the equivalent to SEGA releasing Shining Force 1, Shining Force 2, and ALL of Shining Force III in 1 box.

Scenario 2 was fun, but if you pick it up again BEWARE of the last battle. It's in-sane. I'm actually hoping that you WILL pick it up and play it...so you can help me get past the part where I'm stuck. I swear if I have to start that whole last battle again I'm going to scream.

Couple that with the fact that everybody is LOADED DOWN with items to be brought over into the 3rd scenario...no room for goddess tears, healing herbs...nothin.

That wasn't Sony. That was Working Designs.

it's not really semantics. working designs went out of business. they were a company that dedicated itself to bringing pretty cool japanese games over here with extras and stuff. they probably didn't make a lot of money.
sony is a company that HAS a lot of money. also, I think they just really care about what makes money, as most companies do.
sega sucks pretty hard now though, I don't think you'll ever see it ported over here, especially considering what's happened to shining force in the last few years.

Believe me I have a ton of respect for Working Designs. They not only ported some amazing games, but they had flawless packaging, and didn't skimp on the extras. My point though was that it ultimately didn't matter whether Working Designs wanted to port Arc the Lad if SONY had decided not to release it.

Actually...that's not my point at all...my POINT is, The arc the lad box set was released (a game that is very similar to Shining Force, yet had an even smaller fanbase), but a game that has dozens of websites dedicated to it, with die-hard fans that will stick by the integrity of the series in spite of the things which SEGA did (and continues to do) against it, is NOT released in the US. It just seemed ironic to me...

              ...is all.

It makes perfect sense since the Saturn was a lost cause.

They released disk 1 of a 3 disk game...WHO KNOWS what makes sense any more.

My question is WHY was it never released in any kind of form in the 10 years AFTER that, like Arc the Lad was?

Because Arc the Lad was released on a platform that still had enduring popularity.

Which just adds further irony, as platforms are only as popular as the games they release on them.

SEGA may have lost popularity, but true Shining Force fans don't really care which platform a re-release of Shining Force III happens on. I bought my Saturn specifically for that game, and bought my GBA specifically for SF: RotDD, which is a remake of Shining Force 1.

It kind of did for the Japanese. They still put out new copies of the master disk or whatever for SFIII.

That sounds like the Earthbound/Mother community.

Wish I had a Saturn. I'd give this game a shot.
