Everytime I see the ****ing news in Canada, eh, its all about how one ass hole is winning over the latino women, and the other asshole is winning over the black minority in south nebraska. WTF. I dont remember these last year, or ever.

Are you only allowed to become president now if you win the primaries?

Oh also adding, I hope Hilary and Obama get mangled in a car wreck and we get to watch their lifeless bodies slump out, after the car doors get cut off. Just a bunch of tools hyping up their bull**** to levels never seen before in an election.

We dont have anywhere NEAR your guys level of bull**** going on up here when the Prime Minister elections come around.

Primaries mean a lot, but the media has overblown it waaaay too much. Imagine, if you will, your prime minister sneezing during a press conference, and all major news medias have front headline reports debating whether or not the sneeze was a hidden anti-semitic message. It's how bad it's gotten here.

Primaries weed out what person will represent what party.

Oh, and rumor has it that Hillary is going to drop out because Obama is steamrolling her. However because they are really struggling they are getting a lot of news, then the news overcomplicates numbers and turns it into a crap-fest. I mean. Who does MCain have to go against? Huckabee?

Since no one actually correctly answered the question, the Primaries are what the Republican and Democrat parties use to decide who they are going to run in the Presidential race.

No "third party" (Libertarian, People's, Green, Communist, etc.) or Independent Candidate has ever won an election, but in theory they could (Ross Perot and Teddy Roosevelt got close, as an Independent and as the leader of the self-created "Bull Moose" Party, respectively). So although the Primaries tend to be extremely important, they are not a requirement to running in the Presidential race.

What makes this Primary particularly interesting is that it has offered the greatest Primary "horse race" in modern US history. Usually, the Primary is (for all intensive purposes) over before it even starts, or is decided after the first few states hold their Primary elections (not all states hold their Primary elections at the same time). However, (Hillary) Clinton and Obama have been almost dead even the entire way, and the Republican nomination was a surprise (although McCain won by a mile, the initial frontrunner was Mitt Romney, who couldn't even place higher than dark-horse-and-religious-zealot Mike Huckabee).

In the end, whoever (of Hillary and Obama) wins the Democratic nomination, the other one will likely be asked to run under the winner for Vice President, since both candidates have a huge following. And right now, we essentially have three viable candidates (Hillary, Obama, and McCain), each of whom will be a lot, and I mean a LOT, better than GW Bush if they make it into the White House.
