    Calling Out of Work

Is it as bad as I think it is?

I called out today, the company gives me 2 personal days a year, but still...this is the first time Ive ever called out of work.

Im scared theyre going to yell and scream at me tomorrow, and Im paranoid Ill get fired, even though I know I wont.

Plus everyones going to be mad at me...but meh, theyll get over it I suppose.

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Well, there is a responsible way to go about this.

Home Depot gives me 2 days a year as well (although recently, the Ontario government created Family Day so Home Depot automatically uses one of my days for this) and because I NEVER call in sick, I always have to fight to use them up before they expire on New Years.

Anyway...... it helps to plan ahead of time when you are going to use them, that way your coworkers aren't stuck in a lurch.

Mind you, I don't think they were created for planning ahead, it is when you are in a lurch and need the day off without reprimand.

I told them I went down to Norfolk to visit my parents and the car broke down and its in the shop

Easiest thing I could come up with, they seem to have bought it because they were laughing about it.

But I just dont think it sunk in yet

I think its fine, just don't let it become a habit Thats what happens to me sometimes. I'll call in a day and be freakin' out. After a few days its like 'meh, no big deal.' Thats when I become a bad person

Police: Friend shot man in sick-leave ploy
          Saturday, March 1, 2008 4:55 PM

PASCO, Wash. — What happened to faking a cough?

Sheriff's detectives in Franklin County, Wash., say a man had his friend shoot him in the shoulder so he wouldn't have to go to work.

When he first spoke with deputies, Daniel Kuch told them he'd been the victim of a drive-by shooting while he was jogging Thursday. But detectives told KONA radio that Kuch later acknowledged that he asked his friend to shoot him so he could get some time off work and avoid a drug test.

The friend has been arrested for investigation of reckless endangerment. Kuch is expected to be charged with false reporting.

Detectives declined to say where Kuch works, or whether he still has a job. It wasn't known whether he had obtained a lawyer.

Well you guys made me feel a little better.

I have a position hardly anyone knows how to do, so I was kinda hesitant on it, but meh, oh well.

I've never heard it referred to as, "Calling out of work." Must be a Virginia thing. I've always called it "Calling off of work," or just plain, "Calling in sick."

                Whenever I call in sick I think of the Weird Al song. >_>;

Hit my snooze alarm for the 27th time
Just don't feel like goin' to work
Think I'll call my boss and I'm
Gonna hack and cough and wheeze
Swear I've got some strange disease
What's that little twerp gonna say?
"They shouldn’t have called it Earth, they should have just called it the wipe-your-own-butt planet."

I think it may be a "me" thing, Ive only heard 1 other person in my life call it "call out of work"

Well, 2 others, Funk will say it a little over 4 months from now when he does the same exact thing I'm doing right now.

                    Re: Calling Out of Work

im not one to take sick days unless im totally blown and dont have a chance to rise. during school i got more liberal with it as i became bored with repeating course material, but otherwise i rarely take a day off.

just make up an easy story to go with your ploy if you want it to sound legit, though it quite honestly doesnt mater much since no one can say anything.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
