Has anyone ever had the urge to create a strategy guide for a game they made with RPG makers? I apologize if this was already asked.

Re: Strategy guides
I have done this with my game, Return to Exia, just release a month ago!
http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/...ad.php?t=15753
It has a bunch of features and contains my full offline website which has a full walkthrough, character guide, and boss guide. Even if you don't have RM1, check the zip file out to see what it's about.

Re: Strategy guides
It's a fun idea, but mostly pointless. For one, there's probably not going to be enough people actually playing your game to warrant a strategy guide. Also, if your game is hard enough that it needs a guide, you're doing something very wrong.Ryner's Games

Re: Strategy guides
I took a PS1 game cover and stripped it of its main game art with Photoshop. I edited it to my tastes (but I don't have any drawing skill) and put it out.Originally posted by nerd god View Postit looks good, but how did you make that PS1 cover?
As to the value of strategy guides, I can't say how many times I wanted a walkthrough or a hint of where to go next in someone's game. This is really noticed when the creator has long-since left the community.
The guide doesn't denote the difficulty of the game and it also might make your game more appealing to a downloader.

Re: Strategy guides
If this is true you're either a very poor gamer or you're playing a poorly designed game.Originally posted by Ixzion View Post

owch, i like your optimism.Originally posted by Ryner View PostIf this is true you're either a very poor gamer or you're playing a poorly designed game.
strategy guides are a good idea as any extra you can add to your game package will make it that much more marketable. even if you game doesnt need one, some people out there just want to play using a guide so they get everything in one go. good games do require strategy guides (though horrible games rely on them to get you through the game), since some developers add extras for the player who looks for hidden things, or even just because not all people think the same way.
ideally you want to make your game playable by anyone and shouldnt require a guide to beat it, and the guide should only be a companion for the event the player wants more or gets stuck.

See, this is what other people in the thread don't get. Not that I'm saying that they don't know jack about RM at all, or that they're poor RM players, but they don't know how to market their games or the value a strategy guide adds to it.Originally posted by Karr Lord of Chaos View Postowch, i like your optimism.

Re: Strategy guides
Ixzion and Karr say yes to strategy guides, Ryner say s no to strategy guides.
Looks like Ryner loses the debate
Anaway, I was considering a strategy guide for my game, Final Fantasy 7-10 split, but now I want to make a PS2 game cover.Last edited by Deeth Irteen; 02-28-2008, 09:16 AM.

Re: Strategy guides
I've made many posts about how important properly marketing your game is, I just disagree to the importance of a strategy guide.Originally posted by Ixzion View PostSee, this is what other people in the thread don't get.
