toshiba is taking a huge hit here, but i guess thats the gamble you take when your trying to be the victor of a new format. i wonder how much sony will make off this new format? (buys sony stocks)

Thank goodness, I'm just glad its over. To be honest, I kinda hoped Sony would win. You know, to balance out questionable PS3 sales and the whole Beta-Max thing.

Regular DVD's work just fine, thanks.

Yeah I see nothing special about HD.

                Better resolution, whoopdie freakin' doo

Theyre forcing it down our throats next year for no reason at all, its not like its a life and death situation...at least the government is giving $40 rebates on the $50 converter box, but still, whats the point, wont the government giving out hundreds of millions of dollars in rebates put us further into a hole?

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

I think they have to work on everyone getting an HDTV before they worry about HD formats.

I don't think I'll ever get to see the betterness of HD...I have a mild case of Kerotekonis, a coning out of the eye, which gives me a halo on things that persciption eyeglasses can't fix.

exactly, I was looking at them yesterday and the CHEAPEST HD tv was a 15" right at $500...not something the average household has just laying around...

Id rather have my cheap standard TV with a converter box thank you very much

You won't need a converter box if you're talking about the impending digital switchover of 2009, unless your TV doesn't have a Coax input on the back.

Regardless, I foresee myself using regular DVD's until they die out completely. I think they work great, and my collection is too huge.

If you have cable or satellite you don't even need a converter box, only if you use antenna.

Really, the day I get a HD-TV is the day my old TV dies, I see no difference in the two.

But I watch VHS tapes somtimes too and don't see the difference in picture quality...

So theyre switching to digital? I didnt know that, I was always told theyre switching over to HD signals that wouldnt be compatible with standard TV's...hmm misinformation on my part
