Thank goodness, I'm just glad its over. To be honest, I kinda hoped Sony would win. You know, to balance out questionable PS3 sales and the whole Beta-Max thing.

Regular DVD's work just fine, thanks.
Yeah I see nothing special about HD.
Better resolution, whoopdie freakin' doo
Theyre forcing it down our throats next year for no reason at all, its not like its a life and death situation...at least the government is giving $40 rebates on the $50 converter box, but still, whats the point, wont the government giving out hundreds of millions of dollars in rebates put us further into a hole?

I think they have to work on everyone getting an HDTV before they worry about HD formats.
I don't think I'll ever get to see the betterness of HD...I have a mild case of Kerotekonis, a coning out of the eye, which gives me a halo on things that persciption eyeglasses can't fix. :(
exactly, I was looking at them yesterday and the CHEAPEST HD tv was a 15" right at $500...not something the average household has just laying around...
Id rather have my cheap standard TV with a converter box thank you very much:lol

You won't need a converter box if you're talking about the impending digital switchover of 2009, unless your TV doesn't have a Coax input on the back.
Regardless, I foresee myself using regular DVD's until they die out completely. I think they work great, and my collection is too huge.

If you have cable or satellite you don't even need a converter box, only if you use antenna.
Really, the day I get a HD-TV is the day my old TV dies, I see no difference in the two.
But I watch VHS tapes somtimes too and don't see the difference in picture quality...

So theyre switching to digital? I didnt know that, I was always told theyre switching over to HD signals that wouldnt be compatible with standard TV's...hmm misinformation on my part :p

I wanted to see HD-DVD win because of the cheaper cost it took to make them And their stricter standards in terms of what video and audio codecs HAD to be included. Also, HD-DVD had more features available on day 1. Blu-ray has been playing catch-up with them on that for a while now, and only just recently allowed for picture-in-picture... and even then, only two Blu-ray players are capable of supporting it. The only real technological disadvantage HD-DVD had was its smaller storage size, which would've been a moot point once the 51 GB dual-layer HD-DVD became a reality. Oh well. Now I gotta buy Blade Runner all over again. :(
dvd? what a bunch of snobs
vhs *****es!
This doesn't affect me either way. I'm still buying movies on normal DVD. Anything HD would have gone through either the 360 or PS3 so no biggie there. It's nice that the "war" is over but it doesn't matter to me who won.

It didn't really matter either way for me either, I'll still be using regular DVDs too.

Same here, I really don't care about HD at all. Mostly because I have to calibrate the damn lag on Guitar Hero and it never gets it quite right...
Rock Band handles it a lot better, at least.
I don't want HD OR Blu-Ray to win. I like DVD.

Same here. I wanted to refer to it as Blu-Raymax. :p
Anyway, I'm still happy with DVD. The big thing with the new formats was that they have more capacity, which might be good for longer movies or stuff like TV seasons. Regular movie DVDs have been getting crappy lately though. Back when DVS was first hot, the DVDs would have the main feature and sometimes a few small featurettes, some deleted scenes, trailers, etc. Now DVDs seem to have a lot of crap, just the movie, and no special features except previews for other movies, which I don't like.
Also, I think Blu-Ray has some of Sony's anti-piracy weaseling that makes thing more annoying for the consumer rather than actually fighting piracy or something. Maybe I'm wrong, but Sony's been doing that sort of thing in general lately.

If you're relying on an antenna singal, you'll be SOL in a year's time. I don't have cable or satellite. For me it's not worth the cost for a handful of channels I might actually watch while having several dozen channels I'll never bother with.
