Yeah this was during their little "original game experimentation phase" when they churned out classic after classic...

Legend of Mana (well, this was part of a franchise but it was still cool)
Vagrant Story

I wish Final Fantasy 7 didn't do nearly as well as it did. Maybe then Squenix wouldn't pump out FF spinoff after FF spinoff.

dont forget SaGa Frontier. it was also part of a franchise, not wholly original, but at the time, the pre-rendered backdrops rivaled that of FFVII in my opinion.
