    360 Elite Death

I posted this at the Mag but could use any helpful input I can get.

Well my 360 Elite won't read discs. Everything else is fine just won't read any kind of disc. It knows whether there's a disc or not but it won't pick it up and spin. Just "Unplayable disc."

I thought that issue was resolved with the Elites. Plus I don't get the red ring of death. So I tried forcing one to see if it's self diagnostics work. I unplugged the a/v cable and turned it on and it just glowed "on" with no search for controllers and no fan activity. I then (with it still on) plugged the a/v cable back in and it then booted up as though I had just turned it on.

I don't plan on taking advantage of the warranty cuz I porbly won't be returned my own system and would always have to be signed into Live to us all my DLC. Time for some home remedies! I will poke around some faqs and forums and see if there are any other documented elite issues and see what they did. If all else fails I will just buy a new laser assembly and fix it myself. Just hope I don't snap those damn case tabs openning the thing or it won't ever close again...

    No microsoft/360 sucks plz.

Can't you return it to the store and get a new one? If your warranty hasn't expired yet, you should be able to return it.

Hey, don't look at me like that! I just love Ratchet and Clank is all. Really.

My friend had a 360 problem like that. I dunno if you did this or not, but has turning it on its sides help?

Havn't tried that. As soon as I get off work I will give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!

I know this may seem kind of stupid, but did you try out a variety of discs? I thought my Wii was broken but it turned out that BOTH copies of Wii Play and Zak and Wiki were defective (which at the time were the only Wii games I had to test).

Happened to me. Why don't you use the Microsoft customer service and return it on warranty?

More so,they have a policy that after so long they return you a system so that you aren't away from your games for too long and get all upset. Problem bieng, if they haven't fixed your system by then, they will send you someone else's they did fix and you will never see yours again, rendering your DLC useless when not signed in to live.

I think now is just not a good time what with every one and thier sister taking advantage of the extended warranty for all the first gen 360's that died. They just won't have time to get to mine before the garanteed ship-back date. Thus I won't get my own system back. That is just unnacceptable for me. I have way too much DLC to worry about. Every one of my 36 games that has available DLC has it on my HDD and is tied to my consoles serial number. Also all of my Live Arcade games... Just not worth the risk.

I thought you just had to be on the gamertag, not Live. My 360 wouldn't sign on to Live for a while and I was still playing stuff just fine. Maybe I just got lucky?

You probably got your own system back. The DLC is tied to the console you originally dowload it on. Then any profile can play that content on that system. However if you want to play that DLC on a different system you must be signed in to Live. For instance if you wanted to take GH3 to a friends house and show off your mad skills, and you hav the DLC on a mem unit, or even redownload onto his system, you can play it only if you are signed into Live. Otherwise its there and can be accessed in the mem manager but not accessed in game.

So you can only play DLC on a system it wasn't originally downloaded on it you are signed in.

You can get a new system and have full access to your stuff offline. I know several people who have been lucky enough to find that out.

I wish it was a constant phenom cuz the opposite proves true in most circumstances. My best friend included who now lives with out the internent and without his DLC Well I still won't risk it myself.

Assuming its like every other disc player out and not directly connected, check to make sure the rubber band that connects from the motor to the disc mechanism hasnt broke.

I dont know anything about 360, so this is the only advice I can give.

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

As much as I love my 360, the console is a piece of **** when it comes to reading DVDs. Hell, even some 360 games with streaming video tend to skip.

Was watching a Futurama DVD yesterday, it paused at one spot, but the PS3 read it just fine.
