    Bank Email Fraud

I just got this email today and figured Id share it with you guys:

Dear valued Bank of America? member,

Due to a recent high number of fraudulent transactions, we have issued the following security requirements.

It has come to our attention that 98% of all fraudulent transactions are caused by fraudsters using stolen account information to purchase or sell non existant items. Thus we require our members to enroll in our SiteKey security upgrade, as part of our continuing commitment to protect your account and to reduce the instance of fraud on our website. After you submit the requested information, we will create a unique algorithm based on your personal computer, allowing us to recognize you in any future online banking sessions and thus immediately spotting any unauthorized access. By passing back and forth secret information that only you and Bank Of America? know, you can feel even more secure with your online banking experience. We recognize you and you recognize us. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and enroll in the SiteKey security upgrade, you will not run into any future problems with the Bank Of America? online banking service. However, failure to meet our s ecurity requirements will result in your account suspension.

We are requesting this information to verify and protect your identity. Federal regulations require all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record identification from all persons opening new accounts or obtaining ongoing payment services. This is in order to prevent the use of the U.S. banking system in terrorist and other illegal activity. For these reasons, Bank Of America? will utilize services provided by various credit reporting agencies to verify the information you submit to us.

Once you have enrolled in our SiteKey security upgrade your pending Bank Of America? account transactions will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

Please enroll in our SiteKey security upgrade by clicking here.

    Thank you for your time,
    Bank Of America? Security Department.
I reported it, although you have to be pretty dumb to not notice its a fraud email, Im sure plenty of people will fall for it. The email FROM was "Bank Of America" <jawxqjstaples@tcfcu.com>

and the website they were trying to direct you to was https://onlineid.bankofamerica.com.t...02585142614361

EDIT TO ADD: Seems the site has already been shut down, which leads to my question, has anyone ever got anything like this? This is the first time I got something like this with exception to the Nigeria Kin emails.

    "Bank of America?"

I thing I do to check fraud emails, is to see if the message appeared in the respective message center of a site. For example, while I get fraudulent ebay messages in my inbox all the time(and they look very real), I just check the "my ebay" area and see if any of 'em are fake.

ive gotten a few of these, some from my own bank but mostly from backs ive never heard of. i go out of my way to report all fraud emails to the respected banks email fraud center.

i use to get them all the time for my online game. i wouldnt ever answer by email, i would only delete all emails that are not from people you know. if the bank wants to get a hold of you then they will do just that, trust me.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

tons of non-existant domain registration companies e-mail me all the time about new security upgrades like this, and I guess they just hope that I dont remember who I registered the pavilion's domains through. Sometimes I get renewal notices from ACTUAL companies that I didnt register our domain names through, telling me I need to pay $80 per domain or face termination.

ugh, i get those a lot too. i think its because my email address is listed under my webmaster admin contact info. i dont think anyone falls for that since most webmasters know with who they reg'd and when the renewal is coming up. that reminds me, i need to start thinking about renewing mine by the end of the year.
