Anybody else getting this, or have purchased it already? As of a few hours ago, it's ranked 12th out of 600+ Xbox 360 games, and 37th out of 43,000+ games total at Gamespot. Not bad for a game that never came out in America on the Dreamcast, and came out in miniscule quantities on the PS2, and, upon its release, was considered a "niche market" game. I guess that just goes to show how ahead-of-his-time Tetsuya Mizuguchi was.
You know, people have a big jones for Hideo Kojima, Miyamoto, etc, and talk about their "genius"...personally, my favorite Japanese developer is Mizuguchi. I think he has the special ability to create (and release through Q Entertainment) games that the gaming public at large does not know they want to play upon release, but then later through word of mouth and critical buzz become the games that everyone wants. A puzzle game is the PSP's killer app upon release of both game and system?? A music-based shooter that the mainstream gaming public did not care about upon release of its PS2 port is ranked in the top 40 the day of release on the 360? The world and the industry has finally caught up to Mizuguchi's bright vision.
That being said, I downloaded this at 3 am yesterday, and, as excited as I was about this game coming out, and as "breathlessly" as I anticipated the arrival of Wednesday so I could finally play this (I've only played it for a small amount of time on a friend's Dreamcast), I was too deeply addicted to the PS3's Network Store release this week, Pixel Junk Monsters, to be bothered to turn off my PS3 and switch my TV's input channel to the 360. Meh...I'll probably play it tomorrow so I can turn my stereo up loud while playing. Regardless of how often I play Rez HD, I wanted to download it to give my support to Q and Mizuguchi so they will have sufficient reason to continue making games that hopefully become engrained in the gaming public's consciousness upon release, not almost a decade after the fact.
