I dunno. I haven't seen much of him. But my friends are all raving about him, apparently. These guys also play CoD4 and Halo 3 shouting expletives constantly though, so I don't know.

Re: Is Dane Cook Funny?
No. Never thought he was funny from day one. My dislike of him was not brought about by his over-saturation or popularity. I saw his first Comedy Central presents many years ago and thought he was terrible. A few years later his albums are on the billboard charts and he has his own show on HBO.
He screams and jumps around in lieu of lazy writing and he's also been caught stealing jokes (although a lot of people have) from other comedians, notably Louis CK (who i love).

I'll say he's quite the performer. It's hard to deny, when he sells out stadiums full of people waiting to see him. Yeah his material lacks originality (a nice way of saying he steals jokes), and his supposed jokes usually lack any sort of punch line, but he can sell himself like few performers before him.
For the most part, though, he's a pretty boy comic that frat boys LOVE.Do what you wish

I dont think he's a good performer at all. he's boring as hell. his fans are just stupid. they'd probably be just as entertained (if not more) by a flashlight beam dashing back and forth across a wall with that crazy frog music playing.Last edited by Valkysas; 01-31-2008, 02:30 AM.

I like him. After the joke thief stuff I now feel guilty about it and Tourgasm did oversaturate his act, not to mention the MLB ads, but if you told me he had a new special or cd out I'd be interested. I mean it's not like... Hey is that a flashlight?Last edited by IRC; 01-31-2008, 02:44 AM.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. Re: Is Dane Cook Funny?
I think Dane Cook is funny in a "I wanna hear about your disgusting life" kind of way.
What many don't notice about many long-term stage comedians, is that they sacrifice a lot of comedy potential with creative (and sometimes drawn out) storytelling or stupid gags. Understandable, since an hour of original and funny material is better used over 3 televised specials.
Since they get paid, it's better to sell your image, your personality. You become very popular, and while someone can steal your jokes, no one can completely steal your personality. Unfortunately on the other hand, if someone better than you shows up, you can be completely forgotten, since your image was the only thing you really immortalized. The best comics are remembered by their jokes and not their image IMO.
(if anyone hasn't noticed, I'm currently reading "Comedy Writing Secrets". Damn good book.

Re: Is Dane Cook Funny?
I like him when he is doing stand-up. I find it funny. Only real material that comes to mind is the "I wish I was an alien" joke though.
I never look into the historys of comedians though (with the exception of Ned Holness, he can burn for all I care), so I never knew he was caught joke thieving.
I dunno. I watch too much Stand Up though to really care. I go from Lewis Black to Larry the Cable G...*tap dances to frog music*
