    The End of Star Trek

Would've been nice to see Archer's speech. The end montage of the Trek motto was neato.

Oh well. At least we still got Fear Factor: Couples and Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.

My friends wept during it, I watched it with my girlfriend and then we all celebrated at friendly's after.

We did get to hear Archer's speach, "To boldly go where no man has gone before" was the speach in question, and they showed all the different captains saying parts of it.

The only things I didn't like about the finale was the six year gap, and the relationship between T'Pol and Trip never amounting to anything.

Other than that, this was the best Star Trek series of all time, for me at least.

I never cared for Star Trek much, but it's a shame to see it go without being completed, given how long of a series it has been, running about 40 years!

I think Jla sums it up nicely.

What I didn't like was that the episode was hijacked into an obscure reference to a seventh season TNG episode that by all accounts doesn't fit with what we see here.

Also, the character assassination that happens after the time shift. And the fact that no one seems that upset after Trip dies. It's like T'Pol and Archer didn't tell anyone else.

                      Also, shut up, Riker.

Re: The End of Star Trek

The episode tying into a Next Generation episode was for a good reason, I think. It shows that people in future generations remember the original crew, and that they had an effect.

This season was a blast, though. We found out who future guy was, a Gorn made an appearance, and it showed the beginning of the Romulan war. Great stuff!

I agree, after Trip died, they barely mentioned him, which ruined any significance his death may have had. T'Pol and Trip are obviously in love but both are too stubborn to admit it (A stubborn human, and a Vulcan that's stubborn by nature) but the relationship that took off at the end of Terra Prime, was ruined by the finale. At the very least, they could have at least admitted to eachother how they felt before Trip died.

However, Trip died luring the alien thugs away from the captain so he would make it to the ceremony. HE DIED TO MAKE THE CAPTAIN ON TIME FOR A CEREMONY! I can understand dying to save the ship or even dying to save T'Pol but come on!

Other than that, the UFP Ceremony was planned since the beginning so we all knew (or at least should've known) that the series would end with it. It was a good episode, and I did like it despite my complaints above, but why couldn't UPN afford to give them two or more episodes to wrap up things more? Archer and the crew saved the earth from Terra Prime, then all of a sudden "six years later".

Actually, according to Season One commentary, Berman and Braga still don't know who it was supposed to be.

It was revealed in episode 4x02. The commentary must be outdated.
