    Kudo Tsunoda moves to Microsoft
Former head of shuttered EA Chicago studio and Fight Night figurehead reportedly lands in Xbox 360 country; possibly working on Gears of War series.

The unofficial Electronic Arts-Microsoft talent swap might not be over just yet. GameTap is reporting that Kudo Tsunoda, former general manager of the recently closed EA Chicago studio, has found a new home with the Xbox 360 maker.

If true, it would be a reunion of sorts for Tsunoda, given that former Electronic Arts worldwide studios president Don Mattrick is currently serving as the senior vice president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business. Mattrick was appointed to that position last July to fill the position left by Peter Moore, who had himself taken a position as president of Electronic Arts' EA Sports brand. Yet another EA veteran found himself at Microsoft recently when former EA Canada general manager John Schappert landed a new gig in Microsoft's entertainment and devices division as the corporate vice president of Live, software, and services.

Tsunoda's previous development experience has been heavy on hand-to-hand combat. The EA Chicago studio produced brawlers such as Fight Night: Round 3 and Def Jam Icon, with a Marvel Comics fighting game in the works at the time the studio was closed. However, according to the GameTap report, Tsunoda is being given the chance to try his hand at combat of a different sort as the project lead on a new Gears of War game.

As of press time, a Microsoft representative had not returned GameSpot's request for comment on the matter.
I didn't think GoW was as great as people said it was, but even I fear for its fans.

How is this bad when Fight Night and Def Jam where few of EA's good original IP's?

Because they originally didn't have Kudo involved to screw things up and talk out his ass about why his take on the games are so good while putting down the originals that the fans actually loved. Def Jam was originally developed by AKI Corp, not EA Chicago. Icon plays nothing like the original two before it. Once turning on the HUD, it becomes clear that all Kudo did was make throwing people into hazards deal huge damage while punch/kick combos are such pathetic damage dealers that it leaves you forced to just toss people the entire game.

And if you click the link to see the comments, or even go to other message boards for games he took charge of, just about everyone hates him.

AKI corp did very well, and he comes and screws around with it.

Don't even think of bringing your condescending opinion to this matter.

For us shooter fans, this is a big deal.

I like Gears of War a lot.

But I still don't get why this affects the franchise. The franchise that hasn't happened yet.

See Gears of War is like John Conner, and this Kudo guy is the Terminator. But he's the bad Terminator, from the first movie, and there is no Kyle Chandler yet, so Microsoft needs to get to the chopper. And I guess Goufunaki is Sarah Conner, so Magus would be Leukemia. In the future.

How could hiring somebody who apparently has a bad track record (I haven't played any Def Jam or Fight Night so I don't know personally) as project lead for Gears not affect Gears?

I thought everyone loved fight night round 3?

And well I don't think anyone that worked on a game centered around def jam would have all that much praise.

With the game's popularity, it's a no brainer that a sequel or spin off would eventually be made. Hell, they put a lot of effort to throw in exclusives for the PC version.

But to give sort of an example...

Pretend that instead of Christopher Nolan, we get Uwe Boll making The Dark Knight.

That's a little harsh. You have to give him credit for Fight Night Round 3, but what bones can you throw Uwe Boll?
