Conquer science with friends! Solve the mysteries of cell research! Play with experiments and research! Be a nerd TO THE EXTREME!!! :happy

Linky link link!!! (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=26165872&sid=6184889&action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;2)

Finally! I've always wondered what exploring space in the name of science would be like with annoying 12 year olds. :lol

NASA eyeing MMOG space

Exploring the possibilities of outer space without actually leaving Earth seems to have become the primary goal of NASA since its Apollo heyday. In its latest move to bring civilization one step closer to conquering the stars, the US space-exploration agency is sending out feelers in the massively multiplayer online game space, reports the BBC.

NASA's proposed game will be primarily geared toward students and reportedly "simulate real NASA engineering and science missions." NASA is looking to partner with a game development company who can offer a "powerful physics"-based game engine that is able to "support accurate in-game experimentation and research."

"A high quality synthetic gaming environment is a vital element of NASA's educational cyberstructure," reads the request for information obtained by the BBC. "A NASA-based MMO could provide opportunities for students to investigate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics career paths while participating in engaging game-play." Activities proposed by NASA in the document include experimenting with chemical reactions in living cells, simulating maintenance work on high-cost equipment, and virtually experiencing microgravity.

*croaks from lack of oxygen*

"hey can i get a rez"

The chemical experiments sound cool. I don't see much merit in this though.

If it can get a few kids to consider a career in science it'll be worth it.

Then some ships warp into our galaxy from EVE Online and nuke the nasa kids.

A NASA game could be alright, but I think MMO is a bad way to go about it.

Will it be better than Wolf Quest though, cause thats like the greatest learning MMO ever made.

Never heard of Wolf Quest before. But just looked it up, and it's kinda funny. I didn't realize there were already educational games like this. :lol

A NASA MMO!? Wowzerz.

Now I can fly a spaceship and actually FAKE THE MOON LANDING!

I don't think I can though.

Darn.
