Do you make prank calls?

I'm just wondering. Because I work in a call center. 3rd shift. We take calls for a WIDE variety of accounts. Yeah, we get prank calls. More on some accounts that others. (No! I'm not going to tell you which accounts, because some have phone numbers that are very easy to get.)

So, do you do it? Do you make prank calls? Because I gotta tell you, the one answering the phones thinks your an idiot.

When I was a kid I made a few...

The best trick was learning that when you dial your own phone number from the landline phone and hang up, it will ring again a moment later.

This trick was awesome on babysitters.

no thanks. it was not something i ever done, i just had more respect for others i guess. imagine that, someone with respect for people they dont know.

No, I never did the prank call thing, I always found the concept hilarious but just too disrespectful. One of my acquaintances actually pulled a fairly convincing and scary set of prank calls on me a couple years ago that had me fearing for my life for a couple of days, until I figured out who it was.

Long time no see HD! I haven't pranked anyone since I worked at Best Buy. I'd call other stores looking for fake products, like headlights for my refridgerator.

Oh, actually, I pulled off an AWESOME prank call on New Year's Eve. I was at work, and my location is open 6am-midnight everyday of the week, and on the rare occassion when we close early (Christmas, Holiday Staff party, and New Years) it is always a fight to get customer to leave.

Well, we closed at 5pm, and I was suppsoed to be out of there by 6pm, but I didn't punch out until 6:30pm. On top of that, the phones (On the intercom night bell) kept going off, customers kept calling to see if we were open. Normally there is a automatic message that plays informing people we are closed, but for some reason, it was not playing this time.

I was getting frusterating, constantly having to listen to that loud siren noise, so I picked up the phone and pretended to be the recording. This one guy called 3 times and listened to me say the same thing.

Well, as me and the other 3 managers split up in pairs to make the final round before locking up, I used my cell to call the store. The female manager picked up, and I poured on this thick Italian accent of a woman who was obviously desperate.

(Italian me)"Hey, what time you guys close tonight?"
Actually, we are already closed ma'am.
(Italian me) "Say what?!"
We are already closed ma'am, for the New Year.
(Italian me) "You godda me ****tin' me. You CAN'T be closed! I headin' in to buy a sump pump."
Well ma'am, we closed at 5pm today, there isn't anyone here...
(Italian me "WHAT THE HELL AM I GONNA DO? I GOT WATER IN MY BASEMENT, MY BASEMENT IS FLOODED!!"
I'm sorry ma'am, but we are closed..
(Italian me) "ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME? WHERE IN THE HELL AM I GONNA GET A SUMP PUMP NOW? NOTHIN' IS OPEN TOMORROW"
Again, I am sorry ma'am, but maybe you can call a plumber..."
(Italian me) "A PLUMBER? You gotta number for a plumber?!?!"
Sorry ma'am, but we are closed

I was doubled over laughing with the manager that was with me. The moment we met up at the front doors, she was like, 'You wouldn't BELIEVE the call I just had.." and she reiterated it for me.

I broke out in the Italian accent again, and she was like, "SHUT UP!!! It was YOU?!" and she proceeded to chase me.

I gave her props for keeping her cool as long as she did.

As for prank calls, I only made them when I was in high school, and had access to someone else's phone and/or a pay phone.

high horse? hardly, i dont like getting prank called so i dont do it myself. you know, do onto others as youd have them do onto you.

i dont recall insulting highwind. i pointed out many things including how easy it is to have friends that help by telling them the truth. if you want we can resurrect the argument here, but that would horribly derail this topic.
