    Torayu...?

More and more, I'm starting to think that Torayu is more of a tech demo then a game. I love the fields, but nothing in the game really seems "fun" except for looking at the pretty stuff. Quite honestly, I'd almost rather make maps. It's really my passion, and while RPGM3 is great for presenting plots, I don't know if I can really adapt them to RPGM3.

We'll see how the preview goes (if Kumo ever gets on IM xD) but I honestly think I'm going to just make a new save file and just make maps for a while. I was skeptical a while back when RD suggested "map packs" but I suppose if I make more than 10 I could simply allow people to sign up and ask for them. Of course, it'd be for new games only. (Or is there some way to transfer data between saves...?)

So be on the lookout for my mapmaking progress, I guess.

Man, Torayu is way more than just the maps. You may only have a beginning to the story so far, but it's a good beginning. The characters might not be totally fleshed out, but the game isn't finished, and again...they are a good beginning.

I guess the question is, do you feel your inspiration for that story, those places and people, has petered out? If it's about 'fun' then I really wouldn't worry. I've played the Torayu demo twice now (about to play it again), and had fun each time. Just keep working on Torayu, and I'm almost positive it will improve. Just playing a game that you know is complete already grants you some fun points, right there. However, if you feel like the goldmine is dry, you can take some time away from game making for a while, and just work on some maps for a while, like you said. I think you'll find that you're just a bit burned out, and given time you'll get back into Torayu again.

Nobody knows you better than you, so I shouldn't speculate, I just think it's a shame to abandon that game project all together. I think is has a lot of potential.

It's not burnout on the story, its...well, really, the entire plot of Torayu will be going from one place to another, and then doing some sort of minigame to simulate thievery. No real challange or thinking, except for Tolmurai testing your ability to look everywhere. xD It just feels kind of weird to call it a "game" when it's random wandering.

Look man, if it weren't for random wandering, none of us would have played an RPG. You know, sometimes just sitting back and coming along for a good story is exactly what I want in an RPG experience. You don't have to wow me with technical bells and whistles, and challenge me constantly. That IS a game, and I think people that have lost the ability to appreciate the value of good storytelling and production should fight hard to regain it.

I did. I was a "STOP TRYING TO TELL ME A STORY AND JUST LET ME BUILD MY UBERMECH ALREADY!" kind of guy. What can I say, we've all been subjected to some pretty awful storylines. I had to rediscover the power of a good story to not only carry the game, but MAKE it. Skies of Arcadia comes to mind, but there were others that made me genuinely love (or despise) the characters, and involved my in the story that way. Sure, SoA had a ton of features in addition, but a lot of times I actually felt like they were getting in the WAY of the story, not enhancing it.
