Marion Jones: 6 Months Imprisonment for Lie.

    http://blogs.sohh.com/sports/2008/01...jones_sen.html

I posted a response on this blog as "Bonanza." I'm sure to get a lot of heat for it, but I don't really care. What do you guys think?

I don't know who she is, and the article is so poorly written that I dont know whats going on.

Marion Jones was a famous tracking athlete in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, capturing gold in a few tracking events. However, it was discovered that she had been taking steroids and had lied about it, so in response, she must return all her medals plus the prize money.

serves her right for not having long fingernails and a catchy name.

I think thats fair, its poor sportsmanship on her part, whats the point in playing if someones going to cheat to win?

She also lied about her knowledge of a check forging scam.

                1. Cheating in sports is not a crime, the way I understand it, unless it involves something bigger like fraud in a bet. Additionally...

                2. Lying is not a crime. Period. Perjury is a crime, though...

                3. ...But I strongly believe that government should keep its big honking nose out of sports. They have more important things to worry about, that are actually their job--like wars, trade policies, national security, crime, schools, and the like.

                4. She does deserve jail time for perjury regarding the check-fraud. But I think six months of jail time and two years of probation is probably far too harsh. This reminds me of when they got Al Capone on tax evasion. But Marion Jones is no Al Capone, despite the fact that they're both famous.

Those do seem to be the topics Bonanza makes.

She was the most famous woman in sports for a few years after her record-breaking performance in the 2000 Olympics. Wait... "most famous woman in sports"... on second thought, maybe I shouldn't be surprised no one knew about her.

I highly disagree on most famous woman in sports at that time. I think the Williams sisters got more press coverage at the time.

she held up a Belizean flag when she won the gold medal.

She thinks she's Belizean just because her mother is and because she was treated like a frickin' princess when she went down there.

                              Bah.
