        Re: virtual reality

There's a 99.99999999~% chance that our reality is a virtual simulation being run by a supercomputer of the future.
        ...and that's why.

            Re: virtual reality

Considering that artificial intelligence is barely smarter than a 5th grader I say we have a long way to go until we actually achieve reality in a virtual form.

As far as mimicking life in a virtual setting, Second Life is as close as it gets. Many people literally live their lives through that game and their entire income revolves around it.

I give it 5-10 years, although it will probably be really crude(like it is now) new technology is being developed right now for VR

Sony went public with the information that they had filed for and received a patent for the idea of the non-invasive beaming of different frequencies and patterns of ultrasonic waves directly into the brain to recreate all five senses

                  Re: virtual reality

Well, considering that computers are as smart as humans, and with both the tone of knowledge we gain each day, compared to the imparing of youth from drugs, alcohal, violence, and whatnot... Id have to say from 4 years to the 10th of never.

                        Re: virtual reality

I think we're still a long way (~25 years) off from Virtual Reality that lets you move any part of your body, smoothly interact with the world, and offer an amount of content on par with what you see in today's video games. It'll take an enormous amount of progress, not just in technology but also in the more creative part of algorithm design.

I say virtual reality is a waste. remember the virtual boy? there were only 2 colors (red and black), and boy was it an eye-killer!
