Apparrantly a few publishers, and a development team got mad that EGM called them out on there bad efforts, and have barred them from future coverage.

i dont waste my time with mags, since they make money from the people who they review it is no possible to have an unbias review. what good is a review if its not factual?

They make money off ADVERTISEMENTS, not the reviews. lots of magazines have unbiased reviews. EGM in the past has proven they have no problem with advertisers pulling support from the magazine when they get a bad review.

Hell, this happening tells you that EGM's reviews arent for sale.

i think they(review people) have to hardcore diss some company at some point so people will take them seriously on all the 900 out of 5s they give every popular game they review


i imagine they have some deal established before hand with the people: "give us a really crappy game that you know sucks, and we'll give it a HORRIBLE score. then you get upset and ban us for awhile. we'll look awesome, and once you drop the ban, we'll rate your next piece of **** as pure gold"



money is probably involved too, somewhere

Karr, saying this after EGM specifically said, "**** you" to all the publishers that want to pay them for good reviews is a bit stupid.

In his editorial column in the latest issue of EGM, editor Dan Hsu has named three companies that, thanks to negative reviews coverage, have stopped submitting products to the magazine. Those he names are Ubisoft, Sony's sports game division and Midway's Mortal Kombat team.

Unless Ubisoft published something terrible in the past year, I can't understand why they're on the list. Pretty much every game they publish turns into gold.

its money from the company. its conflict of interest to review a game from the same company who is paying you to advertise that same game. any company can threaten to pull their ads out which would cause problems and possible financial loss for the company - its just impossible to give them a bad review out of fear they will yank their money. its a hard situation, given that its a gaming mag and they need the support of these companies.

@mora: the comment was a general statement. i dont take stock in any of these review companies becuase they require the ad revenues to stay in business, creating a conflict of interest. even if egm pulled the exception here by bashing these companies. because egm didnt give them good reviews they bared them from further coverage, proving my statement of distrust.

And yes, EGM is pure gold to read. Quite honestly there is no point in buying gaming mags for coverage anymore thanks to the internet. But I still buy EGM 100% for the writing. I fully back up EGM, they don't have to this kind of **** from publishers.

I'm confused what this barring specifically means. They can't exactly stop EGM from writing reviews. I guess it means they won't be inviting EGM staff to demos and interviews or sending them advance p/review copies of games?
