    *Tanakh- the Game*

As a first time game maker myself, I can say I really appreciate this advice. My first idea was to create a game based on the Old Testament bible history, mostly having to do with the various kings, prophets, and stuff. Mostly to aquaint myself better with the actual history, to play it through might make it "gel" better in my mind.

Character types are quite limiting in this respect, though.

I am already visualizing my next project, something having to do with global travel, maybe time travel. Mostly global, to utilize more of the characters in the game (Japan for the ninja/samurai/beggar - Egpyt, for the egyptian monsters - Rome for the wide selection of catholics - Definitely Europe/England for the mostly mideval character styles)

I am also thinking of utilizing 1 main custom shop, where one can talk to the shopkeeper about different things, he can direct you to the next location, tell you about side quests, etc. He will also have custom items available from time to time, and possibly will "make" or "order" certain items upon request. Kinda like a "hub". OR, to eliminate the confines of limited indoor scenes, maybe make it a "bazaar" or "flea market" kinda deal. Make it as big as I want, can map it out more.

I dunno. I should just focus on the one at hand for now. I got Moses and Aaron, and Pharaoh built up, mostly. I am writing the dialogue and the mission that takes you from your little villiage of "Sukkot" to "Ramses, city of Pharaoh" in order to meet up with Moses and co. before actually leaving Egypt.

Also I was thinking of trying to make a val. con. branch for taking enough gold from the egyptians before the town will let you leave. I am unsure of how to do this, even though I have read the sticky post on it several times. I guess Im just gonna have to wing it.

I tell you what, this whole thing has got me somewhat interested in learning how to actually make a full blown custom game from scratch. Are there other RPG maker guides out there, like for the computer? I would love to develop my own graphics for it, my own BG's, my own BGM, etc.

    Any tips?
    Shalom,
    Brian

Is there a reason my memory is showing "65%" and all I have are 2 small towns and two maps? I don't want to max out before I am even 25% done...

      is that all you have?

or do you have tons of items/characters/etc...

To anyone that may know: do maps take up a fixed percentage or do they flunctuate with the level of detail?

For the second time today, JPS, your question could be answered by checking the sticked threads.
See, THIS is why I'm moving stuff to the tutorial section.

          2 maps
about 30 characters (although most of these are just undeveloped character-types with weapons so I can choose from weapons later on via the character/weapon trick)
only 1 town really has any events, about 19, about 8 people, and 12 or so decorations.

Oh yeah, and 1 pathetically simple dungeon.

I am just wondering if the memory is determined by the mem card (standard 8 m), or the processing speed of the older model PS2, or what.

Cause I havent even put monsters yet, battles, treasures... nothing. JUst mostly text.
          Shalom,

Well its a lot of hassle to find out something that doesnt even apply to me, plus it would also answer him and anyone else who has the question at the same time.

Plus its a question very rarely asked, so I see no reason why you just couldnt answer it with a plain yes or no instead of typing out a whole sentence explaining where I could find it

I'm just kidding with you, I know the answer is out there, but its such an easy question thats simply a yes/no and deserve no debate that I figured it'd be more efficient and helpful to just ask.

2nd time? Let me go find the first time...from now on if I have a question I'll find it out myself

My mistake. It is "memory - 15%" and the GRAPHICS that are 60%.

              oops.

                Okay, NPC movement?

I want my character to "follow" the NPC to his house, but the "move" command is all I can find, and it just basically "warps" you to the destination. Is there a way of getting NPC's to actually walk somewhere, preferably something I can plot?

Nope. All you can do is have a copy of the character. You display OFF the character in position 1, and display ON the alt. character in the new position.

And no, adding a map adds a specific amount to your data usage. Message boxes are the real killer though, because they add up FAST.

                    Re: *Tanakh- the Game*

I think I am going to have to at least back burner this one, possibly even scrap it out. Not too big a deal, though... it was mostly so I could familiarize myself with the game mechanics. Still have some issues with variables, but modes are pretty much down. Storyteller is just cool!

I noticed that I was trying to "justify" why my NPC's looked less and less "semitic" as I went along. When I realized Pharaoh looked like Burger King, I thought it was time to cry "uncle". I realize that I was trying to make the game fit my idea, instead of making my idea around what is available in the game. I have a much better idea now...

Basic game idea: Since there are so many choices for terrain and sky, weather, etc, and enough character types to spread around, I'm gonna try for some kind of "international" adventure. Something that takes the player around to different parts of the globe, and probably also in different time periods. Possibly even inter-planetary. This allows my use of the "European" model, the "Oriental" model, the "Undead" model, the "Roman" model, etc. I'm defintely incorporating "Rome", with all the catholic models.

But now I have to start making maps all over again. That is the hardest, I think...
