    Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

    This game blows.

Not because it's a short simple light gun game, I mean at least tha would still be fun. This sucks because it actually tries to be something other than that.

And the ideas adn everything are in the right place, fun boss battles and locales you remember from the series. What could go wrong?

Well, a lot it turns out.

Okay, the first and biggest problem with the game is the mechanics itself. The wiimote should be the perfect tool for a light gun game, right? Well why is my cursor locking up when I flick it off screen to reload? Why does the dodge QTE command for "shake" NEVER work? I hate the cursor, mainly because it distracts you and takes away from the twitch gameplay that light gun games are known for.

Still, these points are all debatable. "Dreamknight you just suck at the game and using the wiimote" you can say and I guess that'd be that. But there are some legitimate complaints, too.

Like, when you are shooting zombies they have no reaction. What the hell is up with that? The zombies just lumber towards you until they decide that you unloaded enough into them that they can fall. Hell, even House of the Dead 1, a 13 or so year old game, gave you better satisfaction out of killing zombies. And that is what light gun games are all about, right?

    Poor execution, capcom. >[

Me and my sister have had lots of fun with this game, the main complaint I have with it though is that not all levels are two player. I've never really had any of those problems you claim, perhaps maybe its the sensor bar?

As for shooting zombies, I'm sure they slow down a bit, and shooting does give them some reaction, but shoot them enough and they do fall like you said. I think that keeps things challenging as they keep coming torwards you. More incentive for you to ****in shoot.

Oh yeah, and terrible cutscenes and dialogue. Not a terrible game though. Definitly a solid title for an offshoot.

True but there's better ways to make it more challenging, aren't there? I mean wouldn't you like it so much more if a headshot actually burst their head open?

The terrible dialogue is just keeping it traditional, G.

Head shots actually do burst their head open. It may sometimes take a few shots, but they do burst open. I'm not really sure what you expected, its not like the zombies in Resident Evil run, jump, and throw axes. Though the game still keeps you on your toes with crimson heads, hunters, lickers, etc.

And yes, the terrible dialogue is tradition, but some of the cinematics are just embarrasingly bad.

Anyways yeah, I do see your point, I personally never had a problem getting the shake commands to work, but my sister did. Really you have to be really fast with the commands with this game, which I don't like, especially during the boss battles.

Well to be fair I only played the nemesis levels that had featured just zombies a few dogs and a hunter here and there. I'd imagine the mansion levels would be where it's at but other than that...

I guess I expected to like...have fun shooting things?

I enjoy the amount of lore the game gives but I'm just glad I checked it out before I ran out and bought the system as this would've been one of the games I'd have picked up right away.

Yeah, its definitly not a console worthy title, and its a good thing you got to try it out before you shelled out 300$ or so bucks. But it is a good snack to wet your RE appetite to almost-but-not hold you over until the fifth installment comes out.

And really, the RE3 section wasn't that great, the RE0 and mansion sections are definitly a notch up. I haven't had the patience to unlock the fourth chapter to give my thoughts on it yet.

That's it. That's the crippling problem with this game. I don't feel like I'm there. I feel like I'm shooting through a distant window with my life bar taped to the top. There's no pop. There's no CRUNCH. It's soggy. It's like a wet paper bag. It just kind of collapses. Most of the time, it seems that the zombies seem to die of heart attacks and not my bullets.

I got way more satisfaction out of punching nurses in Silent Hill Oranges than I did out of exploding zombies in Umbrella Chronicles. And having to aim for tiny weak points in order to get the satisfaction I seek just isn't worth it. If I shoot a zombie in the head with a shot gun, the head should explode, whether my cross hair was blinking red or not.

Also, the game takes the "first person" concept way too literally. The camera moves like a real person would, to the point of frustration. Yeah, I guess if I was cornered by zombies atop a speeding train, I might look back and forth and up and down, but that makes it hard to aim.

And there is so much dead air. Why do I have to sit a look into some room if there's nothing left to kill there?

I might play it again, if my little brother hasn't already finished every stage.

I don't want to hear you say the word crunch ever again.

                And I wouldn't eat a Silent Hill orange. {:3

                  and he did!

But crunch sounds really really snobby and weird. Tim Rogers uses it a lot. :s

It's not the greatest, but I still enjoy this game. Shame the only real things to unlock are are dozens of files hidden throughout the game, because it's real easy to miss something because you don't want to waste your good ammo since monsters are coming at you, and you're only looking at that particular angle for a couple of seconds.
