    trust spray

What the hell? I heard an ad for this on the radio. Apparently, there's a pheremone that makes people trust you. Is there such a thing or is this pseudo-science snake oil?

No, but where can I buy some?

Seriously though, I can't believe some of the crap people are allowed to advertise on the radio. They even advertise those colon cleanser diets that really do nothing.

            Re: trust spray

There are chemical agents that influence prosocial behavior like bonding and trust but they are hormones, oxytocin being the most well known/researched. The jury is rather out on how much human communication relies on pheromones if at all, so the idea of anyone isolating a specific behavioral agent among those is bull. Cosmetic companies love the idea of pheremones though for obvious reasons.

They have sprays like this for everything. I think it's bogus, humans are too complex to be controlled by a scent.

What's next? Deodorant spray that supposedly makes women attracted to you?

Only because our sense of smell hasn't played nearly as large a role in our evolution as our eyes have- you're controlld by a lot of cues that you don't notice. Everything you think and feel are electro-chemical reactions propogated by external stimuli and top-down processing in your fatty gooey brain- were only complex because we have quite a few processes for each, but break down each one and its the same building blocks that "less developed" brains have.
