    Doritos, Bonanza Forgives You (1/19/08)

    Hey, guys.

Remember last spring/summer when Doritos had that Fight For the Flavor contest, and by the grace of God, Somking Cheddar BBQ reigned supreme? It was a happy day for me, people.

Now, I can't any bags with this flavor in any store I visit. I went to a 7-Eleven last week, and the lady there said that Doritos called back the flavor because "It wasn't selling well."

What the hell? This flavor was actually good, and they take it away. This is unacceptable. You've messed up big time, Doritos.

Re: Doritos Has Sinned Against Bonanza

i find this happening alot to products that sell extremely well. i think the real issue is wanting a cash cow for later (like vanila coke), some production problems, want to move out of that specific market item, want to create an artificial void or something else. it blows my mind that a company would stop selling a product that does retardedly well.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

        Fixed.

Pepsi Blue was another great creation taken away due to poor sales. There's really nothing I can do now.

No company in their right mind stops selling a product that sells extremely well.

This product was not selling, Pepsi Blue was not selling.

Has nothing to do with whatever bull**** you just spewed.

Ive never heard of that flavor

Although Jackie and I have been looking for that Cherry Dr. Pepper forever(cant remember what it was called), the manufacturer still makes it but the stores decide what to put on their shelves...perhaps write the company and ask them to start carrying it again?

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Re: Doritos Has Sinned Against Bonanza

I was quite excited to try the new "Blazin' Buffalo and Blue Cheese" flavor, but when I ate the first ten chips or so, I realized what I've known all along...

1)That for all intents and purposes, no matter which flavor of Doritos you buy, by and large they all taste pretty much the same.

2)I always buy a full-sized bag when they are on sale for 2 for $4 or 2 for $5 or something, because I'm getting a good deal...but then I realize that after eating about 1/3 of the bag in a few sittings, that I have no desire to eat any more Doritos for the next 3-4 months or so, and consequently, the rest of the bag goes stale, and ends up getting thrown away.

I'm almost tempted to download those free videos on Xbox Marketplace promoting that game design contest they had, just because they are free, and just because I want to see what kind of bad ideas actually qualified as finalists...the actual game is supposed to come out on XBLA this year, and it had better be free like the Yaris game.

I DID download the free Doritos Unleashed (or whatever) theme and gamerpics (as I tend to do with anything free on the Marketplace....it's free, and I've got 70 gigs free space)...but I do not think I'll ever use them as my theme or gamerpic...I've seen other profiles actually USE the Doritos pics (or the Mountain Dew pics), and I can't help but wonder...does the person really think it's cool to advertise a product in their gamerpic? Or are they being sarcastic, and using it because it's the absolute dumbest gamerpic out there?

Kinda like Mora, who still has the green Xbox logo/box design as his gamerpic...I sometimes wonder.

Actually I had read somewhere once that the sprite remix line was discontinued because it was actually selling more than regular sprite.

I dunno, it's probably bs. Worth thinking about? WHO KNOWS?!

                      here is my argument:

                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola_Vanilla

tell me, if the product wasnt selling then why are they brining it back?

Completely different scenario. The "limited" availability of Disney movies means that they will sell like hotcakes, due to everyone thinking they will not be available again. Then they stop production, only to release it again a few years later on a newer format (Blu-Ray, HD DVD, etc), or in a "special edition" version, and once again it sells like hotcakes.

That's actually shrewd marketing...which George Lucas has been able to exploit, as well.

Then there's the "purposely creating shortages to increase demand and hype" type of marketing (Nintendo, although they've always denied it), but that's a completely different scenario.

We should all storm Doritos' headquarters and demand they put it back on the market!

I hope this doesn't happen with Vault, because I really like Vault

I wish Surge was still on the market. Also, I've not been able to find Lime Pepsi in a 2 liter at any grocery store any more, nor Pepsi Vanilla. Plus, when they re-introduced Fresca, they had the regular grapefruit flavor, and then Fresca with peach and one with black cherry. But neither of the latter two seem to be available any more.

Also, I wish they had the red Vault (Red Blitz, I think it's called) in a 2 liter...I've only been able to find it in 20 oz bottles.
