The "Official" Rock Band thread: Harmonix for sale :(

So, as there is new stuff every week, I thought I'd make a thread to discuss all of it that's out there instead of resurrecting the old Rock Band topic. Hopefully, this thread gets some posts on a weekly basis to discuss what's good and what's not so good.

I've pretty much been downloading a lot of what is being released, but after watching some of these videos, I came to realize that even at 80 points each, the songs by 30 Seconds to Mars and All American Rejects are not worth it, even as just extra songs to add to your playlist. In short, they are pure and unadulterated crap. The "The Sounds" track is good, even though it's a cover, so this is worth the 80 points.

Also, for a really decent guitar solo to play, the My Sharona cover has a great one as its second solo.

Anyone else have any favorites?

I only bought the Metallica pack. If I decide to buy more songs, I'm only getting the originals, I don't want covers.

That was my way of thinking when I first began downloading them, but a fun song to play is a fun song to play, regardless. And if you get heavy into Band World Tour mode, it's nice to have a bigger variety of songs to play, as I can see the disc-based songs being repeated ad nauseum.

These are the tracks I have bought:

-"My Sharona"-a lot of fun and always gets the band pumped up for the next song.

-"Metallica Pack"- And justice for all is a little too long, ride the lightning is a little too hard, blackened is in the perfect middle ground but overall its a great pack.

-"I fought the law" Again just a fun song.

-"Rockaway Beach" I actually thought this was another song by the ramones, which sucks because this song is so boring.

-"Brass In Pocket" another boring song but it's good when some DOLT brings his girlfriend to the rock out. You can barely tell it is a cover, though. Still, they should've done "Back On The Chaingang"

-"My Iron Lung"-awesome sone.

-"Buddy Holly"-ditto, good thing too because "Say it ain't so" is boring.

-Sorry Perversion, but I bought "Move Along" as sort of an inside joke with my friends.

I've been meaning to get The Police pack.

QotSA pack I'm going to pass on, I don't know them too well and "Go With The Flow" is too yawn-inducing.

I never heard that song before, P-man, so I haven't picked it up.

Say it Ain't So is actually the song when I'm attempting to sing where, for some reason, I always get really into it, and start shouting the, "Bottle of Steven, stepfather, etc," part near the end of the song.

Most of the other songs, not being trained to use my voice and not knowing how to hit any particular octave or pitch, I usually can bluff my way through on easy, but fail miserably on medium. Although, the first time I tried to sing Roxanne (on easy), I got a 99%, 5 star, and 16 note streak, which I've since never been able to replicate, which sucks, as I had the cheat for all songs on, which made my feat not count.

I can also do pretty damn decently on Wave of Mutilation, probably because I've heard that song SO many times over the years (and sung along to, of course) that I can perfectly emulate every inflection and pitch change in Frank Bla....errr....Black Francis' voice.

I would get Little Sister instead of the pack, because that song is pretty awesome, and interesting to play on guitar and bass (well it should be given it's not easy to play on actual bass, but fun to attempt ). I'll probably download the Metallica pack, maybe QotSA, but probably just Little Sister, Buddy Holly, and maybe My Sharona, given the amount of praise it's been getting in this thread.

There are some amazing QotSA songs out there, I agree that "Go With The Flow" isn't exactly the best song to represent them. If "The Bronze", "The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret" or "Better Living Through Chemistry" were to be made for the game, though, it'd be awesome.
