    Warranty Problems

Anyways, just want to rant...last April I went out and spent a little over $200 on a digital camera, I go to turn it on today and the lens comes out, pops, and stops...I look at the screen and it says "Lens Error 22", about the time I read it the camera cuts off, and when I turn it back on the screen returns that error and shuts back off.

So I call HP(which Im learning sucks, since I have a scanner/printer from them that broke 3 months after buying it) and they said the camera(even though it was 200 dollars) only has a 90 day warranty and they are not responsible for damages resulting, even manufacturer defects, after that 90 days are up.

So basically I paid $200 for a camera I hardly used and got 8 months worth of use out of it. I'm going to send them an email every day harrassing them until they replace it(or hopefully anyways)

Anyone else had a problem with something breaking a few months after the warranty expires? This just irks my nerve because it seems the company doesnt care about making their customers happy.

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

This isn't necessarily about warranty, but about how HP sucks.

I got a new computer and lost the software for my scanner somehow, so I went to HP to download it. HP's website basically said "This scanner doesn't like your operating system. Buy a new one, chump!"

There's nothing wrong with my scanner, but I still have to get a new one.

Yeah. My Playstations. Every one I've owned has started to give me disc read errors after about 3 months. The one I have now started around 10 months, but I am going to have to buy a new one soon because it has a hard time spinning some of my newer games. I know some people never have problems with their systems, but I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

          Re: Warranty Problems

I can tell you first hand HP sucks. I have to deal with them almost every week at work. Since I'm an IT Technician, I try my best to fix all of the laserjet printers myself if they have problems.

In the event that I can't fix it, it's no problem, because we pay for annual support contracts which means its like a never-ending warranty as long as you pay for it.

If you have a problem you can't fix, HP will send a technician out right away to fix it and get you going.

At least, that's the way it's supposed to work. Here is what my experience has been:

1.) We paid for next day support, which means HP is supposed to have a technician out the next day. Rarely do we get someone in under a week.

2.) HP makes me spend (on average) four hours going through support over the phone before they send anyone. (Four hours on the phone with HP during a Nine hour work shift is devastating).

3.) The stuff they have you do to try to fix it doesn't even make sense. (Like having you make sure the toner hasn't run out, when the problem is it won't connect).

4.) Half the time they page the wrong technician. A few months ago they paged someone in Massachusetts, and we're in Michigan. The technician told us to call HP and straighten it out ourselves.

5.) Their support reps systems lose notes (or they aren't putting the notes in half the time) making them try to force you to repeat steps you've already done.

6.) Most of the time I call in, I have to get lectured about how my last name is French for about 5-20 minutes. In my 25 years of life so far, I think I figured out my last name is French.

7.) They constantly ask you whether or not you're using Windows or Macintosh. 99.% of the time, that has nothing to do with anything. Laserjet printers treat all print signals the same regardless of what operating system you use. Not only that, Windows and Mac are only two of the dozens of operating systems you can use out there.

8.) For about a half hour, you have to listen to how everything is your fault before they'll agree to fix anything.

9.) Half of the technicians are morons, and don't understand most entry-level technical term.

10.) Even though we have purchased annual warranty contracts, we still have to be told about warranty options and that our products are out of warranty, and outdated. We have to constantly remind them that we are on contract and provide our contract number. After we do that, we are contacted the next day to be told that our stuff isn't in warranty and we have to pay for support, only for us to give them our contract number AGAIN.

11.) I have to explain my situation an average of five times before we get help. Even then, if they understand it, that's a different story.

I could go on. Seriously, their support is almost as bad as Comcast, if not just as bad.

            Wow,

So Croix, which brand in your opinion would be the best brand to buy? I don't want to have to repeat this again in a year...

To be honest, when it comes to digital camera's, I'm not sure. I don't have one and never had to call support about them. I've heard good things about Canon and Nikon, but I don't know how their support is.

However, a 90 day warranty is inexcusable. I would research first and find a brand that gives you a longer period. I think Canon is one year. If you can get an extended warranty, do it, it may be expensive but it may pay off later.

                Ok Thanks

As a matter of fact I was looking at a Canon today, its cheaper then the HP and it has more features. I dont really want to go cheaper, as I believe the more expensive the better, but I dont really have the money for that(and wasnt expecting this to happen either)

Canon's the way to go. I've had two:

                  1. Got it about 6 years ago, still works to this day

                  2. Got about 1 year ago, works excellent

When it comes to computers and technology, you can throw the "higher price is better" mindset out the window. That's what they want you to believe. In some cases, when it comes to hardware, the higher price could mean the bundled software is more expensive, not the product itself.

In the case of HP, they have computers for over $1000 that are less powerful than mine, and I think mine only cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 to build. I've seen cheaper computers for sale that are better.

That mindset is true sometimes, don't get me wrong. Those $14.99 digital cameras are just as crappy as you'd think they are.

For example, my Geforce 8600GT video card outperforms some ATI cards, some being almost $100 more expensive.

I use a Canon at work and I REALLY like it. They have an HP digital camera and it sucks donkey balls.

However, I don't know for sure if all Canon or Nikon models are good. Read the reviews. Read ALOT of reviews, you'll be surprised how often it will save your ass. And when you decide on one, be sure to buy an extended warranty.

I'm not sure if all Canon cameras are good, but the one I use at work is amazing. I absolutely love it. I wish I could have it, but it belongs to the place I work at

Every time I buy a laptop it always seems to crap out just days after the warranty expired. My first laptop died literally the day after my two-year warranty expired. I even purchased a three-year extended warranty for my second laptop, only to have the fans and hard drive fail one month after the expiration.

I guess I just have bad luck.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.
