Blackberry is kinda glad she died, though. Says that it's a victory for women that Bhutto was thought of as such a threat that she needed to be eliminated.

Not exactly a victory for women...she was a moderate in a nation full of extremists and so she was targeted for not maintaining an anti-western stance. The U.S. had planned on her being one of the cornerstones of an increasingly democratic and stable Pakistani government.

She was a two-term Prime Minister, and seeking a third in the upcoming election in January. Previously she had fled the country under threat of her life and amid allegations of corruption.

There are ties to an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group having pulled off the assassination, which would indicate a change in targets...from low-profile carnage to high-profile political personages.

She had requested increased security measures from the Pakistani President, but had not been granted them by the sometimes rival, sometimes partner against terrorists, Musharraf. You may have seen him interviewed on The Daily Show.

Exactly. This has a great deal of potential for making the problems we have with terrorism even worse for two reasons: 1) Pakistan is unstable as hell and 2) Pakistan has nukes. The worst case scenario is not at all pretty.

I don't understand how this is a victory for women. The fact that she was a woman and a political figure is a huge victory for women, especially over there, where women are treated far below men. If anything this is a great loss for women, becuase she was shot and killed, regardless of her political stance.
