A few weeks ago I imported a bunch of Japanese imports so I could try to complete my RPG collection. Among the bunch that I ordered was Final Fantasy IV for Super Famicom.
I didn't even think about what version I was ordering. All the photos of the cartridge on eBay all look the same. I assume I have the normal or "Hard Type" version since it looks just like all the rest. (I don't have a Super Nintendo, I'm looking for one, but they're hard to find, so I can't play it and find out yet).
So after I received Final Fantasy IV, I started to wonder, which version did I order? I raided Google trying to find an answer. I read a couple of articles. In the process, I learned that FF4 Easytype was NOT the version that came out in USA, like I thought all along. Rather, FF4 Easytype was a port of the USA version to Japan with additional lack of difficulty on top of our version. It even had a different sprite for the final boss. (Sources: Wikipedia Article and This Page.)
So, I searched eBay to see if I can order the Easytype version so I could have both versions, making my Super Famicom Final Fantasy collection complete.
I found nothing. Absolutely nothing. I searched Google again, I wanted to find out what the cartridge artwork looked like so I could find out what version I have, and again, I found nothing.
It's as if the internet is full of information about what FF4 Easytype is, but offers no screenshots or images of the packaging or cartridge.
This makes me wonder if FF4 Easytype was real, or an internet rumor? Perhaps it was real, and was just a limited edition released in a very small quantity? Does anyone know?

I'm not sure.
