Michael Bay, that's why. The entire thing is capitalizing on the success of the movie and is probably being produced in America (and maybe Korea), unlike a lot of past Transformer series.

Honestly, as much as I hate the art style, its no worse than the crap the Japanese have been making since Beast Wars/Beast Machines finished.

Has nothing to do with Bay. Transformers series are planned almost 18 months in advance (takes time to do designs and develop concepts, since they hand-sculpt everything), so they had this going long before anyone knew the movie would be a success.

Transformers Animated is backed up by some pretty heavy talent, including several people who worked on the original series. The whole thing is basically a love-letter to the fans, with countless things being pulled from all the past series. A look at the cast list reveals a lot of that:

Tom Kenny is amazing as Starscream, sounds almost exactly like Chris Latta from G1. The animation is pretty damn good in there as well.

I absolutely love everything I've seen of Animated so far. the designs, the toys, the animation, it's all great. I'll definately be watching the premier on december 26th.

The comicon teaser lets us hear the new theme, which is based on the original theme song, and also gives us our first look at arcee and the dinobots.

It's about damn time we got a western-made series again. the last four series have been handled in japan, and they're really not anything watchable. Japan has no idea what they're doing with transformers, which is why the line has been effectively dead there since 1999 when beast wars ended (which they gave a terrible dub and localization)

After watching the 3-minute clip, I have to say I'm oddly fond of the art style. Optimus' head/neck makes me think of Samurai Jack, and that's always a good thing.
