    Backing up 360 Game Saves

    Can it be done easily?

So the PS3 you can just stick in a usb stick or device then select saved games and copy. Wii you can stick in a SD card and copy (but not overwrite ) your save data to it. So far I have seen nothing like that on 360, and USB drives only come up in media and not System.

So I'm hoping I'm just missing something and Microsoft didn't totally ignore this important feature, but so far all I've found online is ways to back up your games and mod the XBox, something I'm not interested in doing given their hardware failure rate and my eventual desire to have XBox Live. Just curious if anyone has found a way to do this without any assembly or 3rd party addon. I know they made sure you couldn't do it on the original, leading people to mod their XBox to be able to FTP the saves (since some files were bigger than the memory cards), so I'm hoping they joined the new age with the rest of the consoles. I don't want any wayward demos wiping my memory cards again without anyway to backup, or if you know my XBox were to break. I was hoping it would be in a system update, but pretty sure mine is the latest.

Nope, still can't transfer saves to a PC without buying a 3rd party device.

      Goddammit Microsoft.

      GOD DAMMIT.

O well. Here's to hoping it comes out in a system update sometime.

In a similar vein, I have a 360 question: can you transfer saves from a regular Xbox to the 360? Preferably this would not involve a memory card, but if that's the only way it would work, I'm willing to grab one. I'll likely get a 360 soon, and am hoping I won't lose progress in my Xbox games, especially ones that I can play online like Phantom Dust.

You can't transfer xbox saves to the 360 normally (the memory cards are shaped differently). I dunno if multiple devices will work to transfer xbox saves to pc, then to the 360. Pretty stupid since the 360 can play a lot of old xbox games.

I'm happy that Sony made an adapter for the PS3 to move PS2/PS1 saves. Why can't M$ do the same?

That sucks. I was pleasantly surprised to hear they made Phantom Dust backwards compatible, since it didn't sell that well, but I do not like that I will have to rebuild my arsenals from scratch before I can take it online. As great a game as it is, that might take more time than I am willing to spend.

Ya I am keeping my X-BOX pretty much just because I have about 13 different Fable files...

Probably because it's not their problem, and it won't be a problem until people stop buying 360's because of it, which won't happen.

You've mentioned Phantom Dust in more than one topic now. You should hope that Vandal King (Vandal Hiroshima?) comes back, because then you'll both be able to have an enthralling discussion about Phantom Dust. I mentioned it once, and he jumped down my throat when I said I thought it was pretty mediocre.

Wait, so you can't just buy a memory card and copy the saves?

I mentioned Phantom Dust in this instance because it's the one game I have where the loss of memory files hits really hard, because you can't just jump online with it right away like a Halo or Battlefront. If you haven't at least gotten to the end of the game or beaten it, odds are you won't have strong enough arsenals to stand up to the people you fight online.

As far as mediocrity, I guess it depends on what you want. I see it as a game with a fairly crappy story (aside from one memorable cutscene that, for whatever reason, the game won't let you view in the movie viewer), and an overall squandered premise and setting, yet the gameplay itself redeems pretty much every fault for me. It combines the best aspects of action games and CCGs. Indeed, it might be the only game that works like a customizable card game that can ever be described as interesting or exciting.

The memory cards are different for the X-Box and 360.

Isn't he talking about backing up Xbox 360 game saves from the hard drive?
