Golden Compass bombs big time at the theater

What does New Line get for its $200+ (rumored 250) million budget?

An anemic $9 million first day, projected $27 million first weekend. Projected total take: $80-90 million.

    Ouch.

Don't bet on seeing the next two in the series.

      Go Jesus Power!
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

I've heard it's really good. it's just that most people are afraid to actually go see it. for instance, my mom would guilt trip me like nothing else if she found out I went and saw it. her church is protesting it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the controversy behind it, thats probably one of the biggest factors.

Why did Harry Potter do so well with the christians? Ive never seen or read those books either(or are those ticket sales they have listed worldwide?)

Probably because Harry Potter's trailer didn't look exactly like the Chronicles of Narnia movie.

Actually I thought it was a Part II of the CoN the first time I ever saw the trailer...I thought "Oh no, not again"

Someone I know saw it and said it was excellent.

I agree about the fact that people might just be afraid to see it.

There's also the possibility that some people may not have heard of the series before the movies came out. I had never read the books and didn't know it was based on a book until someone told me a month after I heard the movie was coming out.

I knew the book was out, I had to bind about 500,000 of them shortly after the movie was announced

Man, that sucks. Everyone and their manservant-lover said this was movie was great. I was all like, "All right, good for you. I'm glad your book became a good movie. You can't say that about many other fantasy books."

****, I even kind of wanted to see it, but I haven't seen a movie in theaters since We Own the Night. And No Country gets preference.

I was afraid to see it, but mostly because of the strong resemblance to Narnia, a movie I found quite mediocre when I took my little cousin to see it. Besides, I haven't gone to The Mist yet, and that would take precedence, since that was from a fairly good story.

I hadn't read the books, but I consider myself a huge fan of the genre, so I went. I wasn't expecting anything magnificent, but I was pleased by the outcome. It definitely had a cool feel, though I can see how they kinda glossed over some explanations in the interest of timing and whatnot. I dug it, and I don't say that about many movies.
Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

At least it isn't as bad as Codename: The Cleaner....

                              Or Hitman.....

                              Or Rush Hour 3...
