Armored Core for Answer (New AC game)

    from insertcredit.com:

Due to some conscientious ninjas, I was sent some scans of the latest Famitsu which contained an exclusive preview of the upcoming sequel to Armored Core 4. Entitled Armored Core for Answer, it utilizes the same game engine as Armored Core 4 but with some substantial modifications. For a start, each area will be around 20km square, they are going all-out to emphasize scale in relation to immense mobile fortresses. There will also be online co-op(!) and the series will finally feature playable mecha that are fully transformable.

The big thing for me is that From Software is hiring THREE major mecha designers to work on the game. The first is Shoji Kawamori, who was responsible for the transformable Valkyries in Macross and was instrumental in the creation of the design work for the older Armored Core games. Kawamori will be penning the NEXT mecha (basically the new futuristic AC's seen in AC4). Kazutaka Miyatake and Makoto Kobayashi will be designing the huge mobile fortresses. Both these latter gentleman are of special interest because Miyatake actually designed the SDF-1 from Macross and Kobayashi is a complete nut for complex bulbous machinery (his work on Dragon's Heaven is a personal favorite of mine, as it was relatively unfettered compared to his involvement in Zeta Gundam and the Venus Wars movie).

From the article it seems that both the PS3 and 360 versions will be released simultaneously (in Japan) in March of next year. Toshifumi Nabeshima will return as producer and I totally dig the funky logo.

Sounds like the first real evolution in the series since.......well.....the first Armored Core. I enjoyed the series on the PS1 (that awful Phantasma notwithstanding), but it seems like since then it's just been the same game over and over. Hopefully this fixes that repetition problem.

Hopefully they get rid of the grainy effect that was in the previous AC game. Couldn't stand looking at it.

Bringing back Shoji Kawamori. HELL YEAH. His designs were the best out of all the games.

Hey Agetec. Please take Armored core back. Sega did a shoddy job like everybody expected.

Im wondering how the whole transforming thing will work. It could replace overboost or something, like a part to equip, and your legs and arms just fold up.

In one of those pictures it looks like a whole bunch of rocket boosters open up on the back of an AC. Im waaaaaay more physiced for this than I was for AC4.

I hope they do. But with these big name mecha designers onboard, the game is gonna cost a small fortune to license and I'm not sure Agetec is up for that. I'll ask about it the first chance I get though.

Sega did a shoddy job like everybody expected.
Oh, don't forget ACO. those idiots have always been extremely critical of Agetec, and got soooo excited about Sega picking up AC4, and were promptly **** upon and ever so thankful for it.

Although the more intelligent AC fans knew the game was headed for trouble as soon as the cut and paste boxart was shown off. looking at AC4 next to Agetec and From Software's cover art, damn. it's ugly as hell. Our fears were confirmed when Sega shafted the community and denied PS3 users updated regulation files. Yeah, that was so much better than Agetec who fixed game-breaking bugs, relayed suggestions from the fans to From Software that resulted in entirely new core types, and made Formula Front playable, opposed to the boring AI trainer it originally was. Who the hell needs that?

If Sega releases this, I will not buy it. I'm not paying them to screw me over again. I'll import it. PS3 has no regional lockout, and AC games typically have an english language option. I'll be fine.

How is importing not the same as buying it?

Does boxart really tell you THAT much? I mean wasn't it changed for the PS3 version?

Even with those complaints I thought you liked AC4???

Armored Core Online. a place where idiots gather and praise one another while bashing a company that did everything in their power to help them.

Sega's cover has one AC standing in the air - tilted for no reason and not using it's boosters, ACs firing at nothing and making no effort to aim at anything. The two ACs closest to the viewer are pulled directly from turnaround art files (which explains the static poses) with photoshopped weapon fire. It's boring and generic. Look at it next to Nexus or Last Raven's covers.

Oh no, I hate the game.

I'm fat and stupid so I don't understand, but is Sega just distributing it to the US?

I dunno, I say the JP version looks pretty sweet next to the other game covers.

I don't own a PS3 or 360 I am thinking about buying a 360 though, so what is so wrong with it? I, personally, even enjoyed Nine-Breaker.

Sega is the US publisher, and has denied the players of AC4 a lot of support, including regulation file updates for the PS3 version. No AC game they publish in the US will ever get my money.

yes, the JP boxart is awesome, and the one I have a problem with is the US one.

AC4 has a completely new control system that I hate, really short missions, crap part variety, and tons of boring missions.
