    a burning vegetarian question

I'm not a vegetarian, but it's just a question about them in general.

Does vegetarians not eating meat actually curtail any of the livestock being born for mean purposes? It's one of those things I've always wondered. I could understand giving up meat for that reason, but I've also heard plants feel pain as well...overall, I guess I was wondering if their efforts really reduce any suffering done by animals.

Them not eating doesnt reduce the animals suffering at all IMO, one person deciding they dont want to eat meat isnt going to change anything at all, there are millions of people that eat meat, so animals are going to suffer either way and theyre not going to save any animals at all by going vegetarian.

Like I said this is just my opinion, which I think is a pretty good opinion, but I know PETA would say otherwise

lots of vegetarians do it primarily for dietary reasons (some of them will declare "save teh animals" reasons after the fact, so it may be deceptive exactly how many are doing it primarily for diet).

i don't think it really puts a big dent in how many animals are killed. the big factory/farms that raise/breed huge quantities of animals just for mass production of food sure aren't going to be slowed down, because their product can always be sold -somewhere-, so they should always be producing at max efficiency.

It's all just piece of mind for them. They feel they are good people because they choose not to eat meat, when in actuality, they accomplish nothing other than an iron deficiency.

And plants emit a high frequency sound like that of a scream when they are "hurt" in any way (cut/burned/branches snapped). It's inaudible to human ears, but has been recorded using high techie stuff. Discovery channel.

Ya I saw something about that as well... I think the human species has evolved as omnivores but we definitely overdo it when we kill livestock. I also believe that vegetarians doing it to save life is a righteous cause.

Where else would we get our meat if we didnt kill livestock? Maybe Im just misunderstanding what youre sayng.

I was really hoping this would be a question about burning vegetarians, not a burning question about vegetarians. =/

Yeah that's the spirit! You should just be a defeatist instead. Why bother trying to do anything; it will never matter to anyone or anything in the end, right?

In the entire civilized history of man, there has only been a handful of people who has made a significant impact on the human race, and none of them were vegetarians.
