Bush: faith based groups key to fight against AIDS
Re: Bush: faith based groups key to fight against AIDS
i think they would reach a larger audience if they preached something a bit more practical for the folks there. i dont think they are embracing religion just to not have aids.
i think its good to have them there doing something, however id like to see some organization that has a focus purely on helping the problem rather then trying to make the mission into a religious one.

I never understood the idea of promoting or teaching abstinence. Are there really people out there that didn't know they could choose not to have sex? I'm pretty sure everyone's already aware that's an option, most just aren't choosing it.

Actually a lot of teens think that's you are an outcast of some sort if you don't sleep around. That you NEED to have it in order to be in a relationship.

I don't know where you grew up but at my high school and middle school that was true. Well, the outcast part, I don't think anybody was worried about being in a "relationship." But I really wouldn't know.

i dont think they are preaching just to not do it, i think its more like giving reasons why this option would be better for the people - defining what the choice means rather then saying it is a choice. perhaps even mentioning the benefits of waiting till marriage and other such stuff. even though its not my philosophy i can still see the benefits of abstinence and it does work marvelously for some people but it just isnt the norm.
