I'm an unfreindly person

Ever have those moments in your life, where you just kind of take yourself out the the picture and evalaute what you just did. And go, "wow, I really ought to change that part of my personality."

I have a hard time meeting new people. I don't know why, I just do.

So today I'm sitting in the school cafeteria, eating alone because I'll usually just eat and read something during my lunch hour or meet with this girl I work with. Moving on... Today, I sat at this big table by myself. Then this kid sits down next to me. He Sat there for a while and I continued eating but he said nothing and it was kind of awkard then he started to go through his backpack. Instead of extending my hand, intoducing myself I just grabbed my iPod out of my pocket. When I put them on I looked up and he had this look on his face of dejection and embarassment. Then he got up and walked away.

So yeah, that's my story. Gotta learn to be more social and willing to meet new people. I've been somewhat of a lone wolf my whole life... don't know why.

I used to be similar to that, eating by myself. I think the key to being more social is...simply to be comfortable with yourself. Once that happened, talking to people became very easy for me.

I'd like to blame my terrible social skills on some sort of anxiety, but I'm probably just defunct.

No, it's actually college.

I don't know anybody except for a handful of people and don't really care to get to know anybody else because it's a local community college and I'm only here as a transition for one semester.

But the point remains valid. I have a hard time getting to know people.

Many social people are actually as shy as you and me. What makes them as bubbly as they are then, you ask? GROUP ACTIVITAHS.

Get in one. Easiest way to socialize.

I make friends easy by showing poeple the picture of my mom I have in my wallet.

Yeah, Bonanza has the right idea, be somebody you like being and normally talking to others is very easy. It's hard to change yourself, but it's far from impossible.

Eh, you never know when opening up to people might be a good thing. That's how I met one of my best friends when I was a volunteer at the Witte Museum. I didn't want to talk to him at first (he seemed kinda loud and annoying to me), but I forced myself to be more social and we started hanging out at work, and then going to arcades, etc. We've been good friends for over 14 years.

Just remember that even if you don't want to be social, you can still be nice to people.

I tried to make some friends by going to this local group and meeting people. Didn't really work though. I'd just spend the whole time watching everybody else have a good time. Never felt like I had anything interesting or useful to add to the conversations. I decided to stop going a few weeks ago. I was just taking up space anyway.
