    It needs a name

Okay, so I need to name my RPG. As a result, I'll probley have to tell you the plot. So here is a spoiler free version:

Your traveling through a desert when your attacked by bandits. Suddenly, a werewolf comes and kills the bandits (saving you). You find out that he is the leader the Abyss Academy, were they train people in the magical artes. You go there and basicly have total freedom over what happens for the next week. Then, the plot unfolds as two men cloaked in black apper and awaken the evil Summon Spirts. You must defeat them then go to the last Summon Spirt, Time, and defeat him. Afterwords, the game continues, though it looks like nothing will happen. Eventually, the cloaked men return and you must fight to uncover secrets, lies, and the mysteries of the world, with a climatic battle at the end. All while doing your homework (haha)!

So, I need a title. Help? Please and Thank You!

Honestly, what ever happened to this? Much better idea.

If you stuck to this theme, you wouldn't have to name your game, "Tired, formulaic, overused genre devices: The RPG."

        Sorry again, but just saying...

Now, you don't have to listen to what I have to say, but if you made the first idea into a game, and made it work, it would probably stand out a bit more from everyone else's game ideas. Personally, I think if you are going to bother investing the time, effort, and energy into making an RPGM game, you should focus your energies on doing something different than everything else that's out there, or, once you finish the game (assuming you do) and upload it, it's just going to get lost in the shuffle. Try making something that stands out. If the storyline is a little hackneyed and cliched, that's fine, but have something unique about the gameplay to back it up.

But then again, you should be making a game for you, not for everyone else, so feel free to ignore me.

I'm not sure how to do classes and things. I don't know. I think I tried to spread butter over too much bread with that idea. I still had a school thing going, just a story to go along with it. Ah well, I'll just go back to the drawing board.

It's up to you, man....don't scrap your idea because of something I suggested. Just trying to give you my experience from making (and playing) a few RPGM3 games.

As I told you in the other thread, if you're gonna go the class route, you NEED minigames.

As a suggestion, you might want to do something like the main character goes to school, and in one (or more) of the books he is reading, he is magically transported into the book (or it could be him daydreaming), and needs to "save the world" that way. Granted, it's kinda FFTA-ish, but maybe you could have it split up into chapters or something...like, after each "chapter" ends, he goes back to class, and goes about his day-to-day routine, going to other classes (in which you might also make ANOTHER "dream" storyline that might possibly intersect at the end of the game with the other "dream" storyline). In this way, you still get your fantasy-rpg battles/worlds/good vs evil thing, but are making the setting and mechanics unique. Instead of having a standard RPG, with a school setting thrown in now and again for flavor, maybe think about basing the game off of the school setting, and throw in the other stuff for excitement/flavor?

Just a suggestion, but sometimes it helps to think outside of the box a bit.

That sounds good. I'll try minigames but, not sure how to make them. Is there a forum about that? I thought I saw one once.

                  completetion: 0% (story in development)

Not a forum, but MANY threads about them. Here's one where Pagerron links to a number of others. Also, click on "search" at the top of the page, click on "advanced search," highlight the RPGM3 Workshop forum, and type "minigames" into the search window. You'll find at least a page of threads mentioning/discussing minigames if Pagerron's links are not enough for you.

I think the plot could be OK, even quite interesting. However, you need to do some serious work on the motivations, mood, and flow of events in order to make it work.

A couple names I thought of offhand...

                      Beyond the Cloak
                      The End of Time
                      Forever Mystery
                      A Wanderer Turned

Off the top of my head:

                          "Chronomancer"

"Timeless": (substitute with "ageless", "endless"). Add: Saga, Tales, Journey
